Well I've had my BRZ for exactly a week now so I thought it was about time to start up a journal that will chronicle the car's progression through time. Firstly, I think it's relevant to discuss what I was driving previous to the BRZ for comparison's sake. Before the BRZ I had an 2008 EVO. AWD, lots of torque, lots of power, lots of grip. So much grip that going into corners felt nice because of he gforce activation, but I just didn't feel connected with the car.


Fast forward four years to January of this year. I'm still loving my evo, and then I see the concept and some reviews of the BRZ / FR-S. Wow! I first loved the looks of it. I wanted to know more about it quickly so I did tons of research for the next two months. Every little piece of info that leaked out, I would absorb. I thought to myself, “Ben, really, this wouldn't be the smart choice. You have a 270 wHP evo x. It's great in the winter and still pretty fun.” I still couldn't get over the fact I was driving a 4 door sedan that looked like a glorified box with a mean-ass front end. Still it was great to drive on back road twisties.


I put a deposit down on a BRZ at the end of April. I thought the least I could do is test drive the thing and see if it lived up all the hype is was garnering from reviewers. So it came in about ten days ago and I test drove it. I loved it. It just felt right for me. The handling was extremely direct and with a flick of the wrist a responsive and controllable screech could be heard and slight lateral acceleration could be felt. It just felt so planted, and drove much better on the highway. Too well in fact because I often find myself cruising much too fast.


So after a week and 750 miles, I'm still thoroughly excited about the car. I'm patiently waiting for a quality intake and exhaust in attempts to even out the lack of torque in the notorious dip. More average power would be a plus too. But, don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly content with the power out of the box. It's immediate and inspiring. Sometimes just starting out in 1st and 2nd gear I get pushed back because I simply wasn't used to the immediate response in my evo. The engine is a perfect fit for this car. Everything about the suspension, steering and overall handling cry for a direct N/A engine, and the engineers understood this. I'm happy they are making the right choice and keeping it N/A for the STI version.


The car has been a joy through twisty back roads, and I thought it couldn't get better after the evo. I'm planning a trip right now actually through SR 16 going north from Bangor, Maine. Only a 50ish mile trip, but It's a fun, newly paved road with sweeping and a few sharp curves. The sun is coming out for the first time in days so I can't wait to get out there. Every morning I can't wait to drive.


As you can see in the pics, I will be removing the sticker on the back window when I get a sharp razor blade and apply a bit of goo gone. I will also be de-badging the BRZ and SUBARU rear emblems. The lic plate holders will be changed. I also replaced the stock exhaust tips with something less horrid until I get a full exhaust. Future mechanical mods include an intake and exhaust, and then a proper tune when one is available.

Those are just some tips I bought from advance auto parts. DX-1013 I believe (might be DX-1012 I forget).
