Upgrading LED diodes in Winjets?
I always had an idea and was wondering if any electronics gurus would be able to see the feasibility. For those who have Winjets you probably realized that they are really not that bright in the day time. If you modded them to stay on all the time like I did they look amazing at night and are not blinding to anyone.
Now there is another mod called the DRL LED strip (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30962). This LED strip replaces the foglight bezel and has a two power mode; when the lowbeams are turned off they are in highpower mode (for day time) which seem to be as bright as the DRLs in the monograms. When the lowbeams are turned on for nighttime driving they enter a low power state so it will not be blinding to anyone. Now for my idea, what if you were to replace the indiviual led diodes in the Winjets with these LEDs in the LED drips so they can be changed from low power and high power in the day and night? |
The first thing I want to say is, LED stands for "light emitting diode". There is no need to say diode twice.
Provided you can take the headlight apart without much gripe, it wouldn't be hard at all. It would probably be a cake walk. GOOD soldering equipment makes a world of a difference. The Winjets also probably use regular run of the mill LED's which could be an issue since most of the same size diodes normally have the same power rating. However, depending on the way it is assembled, a different style/type/shape of diode may be possible. |
