I am moving to Miami and don't know the area

I am going to be working in West Perrine and I was wondering if anyone knows the area? and had suggestions of places I should stay away from. Or if I should just try to live up in Coral Gables. Thanks.

So you're moving from Seattle to Miami? That really sucks. What would I avoid in Miami?

MIAMI

Look for a place in Kendall or Cutler Bay.

Anything west of the Tpike and north of SW 184TH Street is good. Then Cutler Bay has a few good neighborhoods.

East of US1 is pretty good too in general.

Theres isn't much you can do when you are in the military and have no say on where you are going, and yes I do speak Spanish. I would not mind staying in Seattle and plan on moving back once I am done.

Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, and Pinecrest are all nice but expensive. South Miami, Palmetto Bay, and Cutler Bay are a bit more affordable. I would classify them pretty much in that order. They all have nicer and less nice areas. And all are located East of US1. The heaviest traffic is northbound and eastbound in the mornings, and reverses in the evening commute. The Turnpike causes big choke points so try to either be against traffic or live on the same side of where you work. Traffic can be a big issue so choose wisely. It takes my partner between 45m & 2hrs to commute 16 miles depending on the time she leaves for work. She goes northbound. Try doing the commute a few times before commiting to a location. @Caspeed Army Recruiter.

I grew up in the Cutler Bay, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest area. East Perrine was annexed into Palmetto Bay. My suggestion would depend on whether you're looking to rent or not, and how much of a commute you can stand.

I would have to rent for a while. Anything in the 15 mile range would be nice and under 30 is still pretty good.

If your going to the recruitment office on Bird road and 147th Kendall or another southwest suburb would be good for your commute and affordable Gables has the best city services, Gables Grove and areas of South Miami / Pinecrest are the nicest off beach areas and at minimum 3500 - 4k month for a single family home, But also some of the most congested areas. Best advice is to live as close as you can to your place of work.
