Owner's Manual Error - Recall??

http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2012...owners-manual/

So i'm new to this whole recall thing, but I think the manual is minor enough that we won't have to bring in the car for any reason? Too busy enjoying the drive to let it out of my sight in these first few weeks.

...but nothing on the safety agency’s Web site indicated the recall would extend to the BRZ.

Recall's are free, I don't see why you wouldn't go and get it done.

What they seemed to do is glue a revised booklet containing the changed pages in the manual to the back cover of the manual. On each page affected, they have a sticker at the bottom saying "This page has changed, see the booklet at the end of this manual for updated information" in red.

They could easily do that for you the next time you take it in for service.

The revised pages seem to be about airbag safety and deployment... nothing that most of us care about. If it happens, it happens and all you can ask for is is the best. Honestly, seems like more CYA (cover your ass) legal disclosure for people so they can't sue Toyota.

well now we know 1156 of these things have left port :)

My manual came with pages glued in the back. I picked up my car yesterday, 2 days after the "recall." Looks like they just shipped out changed manuals to the dealers since the keys/books are not shipped in the car.

I picked up my car 5/31, and it already has the "updated" manual. The 1156 is the affected number. Since mine is not affected, so I think it should be more than 1156 untis have left the port.

Yeah, the appended pages seem to focus on that. I find it funny, "here's how the things that you have no real control over, will work." It's not like you can read the manual before buying the car (okay, I suppose you could, but who does that?!).

Must just be for legal reasons. "I flipped the car on its side/hood, the manual says the airbags SHOULD go off but they did not! *sue sue sue*"

Though I will say, I did have a good time reading through those pages because of the wording. "Situations where the air bag will be deployed: (examples)", "Situations where the air bag will MOST LIKELY be deployed: (bad examples)", "Situations where the air bag MAY NOT be deployed: (worse examples)", and last but not least, "Situations where the airbag BASICALLY WILL NOT DEPLOY: (terrible examples)"

that is effing retarded.

But it is funny! They should just make the owners manual on a Ipad App.

I wonder if we'll see the recalled ones show up on eBay. "RARE 2013 FR-S Error manual!"

I do with everything I purchase, you learn a lot about a product from the manual. There are many things I've decided not to buy since I learned they wouldn't stand up to what I expected, just by spending 10 minutes to RTFM.
