Norcal BRZ/FRS Drive n' Breakfast @ Alice's

Just gonna put this out there...

As I mentioned in the roads & routes thread (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4608), I'd like to get some Norcal people together for a meet and drive. We'll just do a short, slow pace loop, just so we can get a feel of the dynamic of the group (to be honest, maturity level, no offense). The route should take us around 1.5-2 hours (plus breakfast) down the coast and finish with some twisties around the mountains. Here are the rough details:
  • When: Sat, July 21st
  • Meet at Safeway Parking lot (1655 S El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA) @ 7am (yes, that early, to avoid most of the traffic on Hwy 1)
  • Grab some coffee/hangout/chat a little and leave promptly by 7:30am
  • Warm up by heading west on 92 towards Half moon bay and then down the coast on Hwy 1
  • Maybe stop at San Gregorio Beach to take in the breeze and stretch our legs.
  • Continue down on Hwy 1 and then head east on Pescadero Creek Rd.
  • Continue on north on 84 then stop for breakfast @ Alice Restaurant (17288 Skyline Boulevard, Woodside, CA)
  • Leave Alice's and head north on 35 (we could stop on the vista point at the corner of skyline/35 and 92 to chat some more or break up and continue on our merry ways)
  • Drive at your own pace & no tail-gating. Most of us are probably still working on breaking the car in.
  • Come prepared (i.e. full tank of gas, tools in case of break down, etc.)
  • If we all get separated, you know the route, just follow it and have some fun.

If it all goes well, we could try to make this a regular thing, maybe next time around Mt. Hamilton or Mines Rd. to Livermore.

Notice:
I am in no way responsible for the behavior of anyone participating in this ride. You are ultimately responsible for your own safety, as well as everyone around you. Although we are driving as a group, please observe traffic laws and be considerate to others (pedestrians, motorcycles, cyclists, other cars). I would hate for our group to get a "reputation".

UPDATE 7/10/12:

Seeing as we might be a pretty good sized group, I think I'll stick with the original proposed route. I've also added a poll to get a rough head count of how many people are coming, so please vote if you guys are planning on coming, so I could reserve a table at Alice's.

Also, seeing as this might be a huge group, bring a walkie-talkie if you have one, I think we'll need some to aid in communications.

UPDATE 7/11/12:

Spoke to Edwin of SF Scion, who was interested in sponsoring this event, basically paying for breakfast and bringing some free shwag (Scion hats & t-shirts). The main thing we need right now is, because it will "technically" be a Scion supported event, is that he needs a count of FR-S's that will be there to get it approved with the corporate folks. If there are more BRZ's than FRS's, then it might not fly (doesn't mean the meet won't happen, just that Scion won't sponsor it). So come out all you FRS-ers!

Also, called Alice's and made reservations for ~15-20 people. They said, for such a (potentially) large group, that we would have to get there before the crowd starts coming in, so we're reserved for 9am. We're gonna have to hustle and do most of our chatting at the restaurant or after.

UPDATE 7/17/12:

Its official, SF Scion will be treating us breakfast for the event. Here are some of the details:
  • SF Scion will have a tent set-up both at Safeway and at Alices
    • They will be bringing some free stuff: t-shirts, hats, etc.
    • They will be bringing some special cars: a pacecar (I don't recall what it was), some FiveAD equipped FRS's, some IQ's, an MR2, etc.
  • Breakfast: They will be providing each car with a voucher for one meal at Alice's. For those with +1's or coming with other people, sorry, you're gonna have to cover their meals (Hey, at least we got 1 meal free, that's not bad considering we started out planning on paying)
  • SF Scion will also be bringing some of their media (for internal promotions, etc. I'm guessing)
  • Considering the potential size of our group, we may have to split the group up into smaller groups. We'll stagger the departures a little bit so we don't clog up the roads too bad. A few folks at SF Scion have scoped-out the route and can lead the small groups.
Thanks again to Edwin of SF Scion for the help!

I'd love to go, but I have my son on Saturday the 21st so I'd be out. Sounds like a decent plan though.

Cool, yes, July, I figured I'd give people a good heads up. But I am planning on scoping it out this Sunday (6/9), but that depends entirely on plans with the Missus (yes, I'm whipped:paddle:, but I like sleeping in a warm bed :))

There isn't anything wrong with having a loving better half. It could be worse, you could be a lonely driver.

I might make it some day. It's quite a trek for me as I'm up in Chico. It's 2 and 1/2 hours minimum. Assuming I don't stop for food.
Now, If you guys (and gals) ever want to do something closer to Sacramento, it's another story.

That's too bad, but completely understand. Maybe we can do something around Sac (I know some of our members are in that area). Hwy 50 east of Placerville is a pretty nice drive.

If mine comes in by then I will be there. Actually I might go either way, just have to get the day off work...

Would love to join. I will have to see when the time comes. Thanks for organizing this.

Hey what's up guys? I live in San Jose and would be down to meet some fellow owners!

My FR-S is still 2-3 weeks away as it's floating somewhere across the pacific as week speak, but I should have it by then.

I'm pretty happy to find some community forming already, I come from VW so I like that about a car. I'm also happy to upgrade to RWD and shed about 300lbs for autoX!!!

I went on to the 35 a couple days ago. There were a few constructions, but it was not too bad. At least, both lanes were opened.
