Aftermarket hood question
I am looking for aftermarket hood for my BRZ.
I am a daily driver, so it is mainly for looking. I saw some of the aftermarket hood has rain protector option. What's different or advantages/disadvantages between w/wo rain protector? Is that necessary for daily driver? Thanks a lot. |
wtf is a "rain protector?"
pics? |
Pretty sure it just detours the rain/water from certain parts of the engine bay?
|
He might be referring to a hood with vents, some of these come with removable covers on the inside to prevent large amounts of water flowing into the engine bay when its raining.

For example like this. (Left one with and right one without). Thanks. http://www.icbmotorsport.com/jdmfimofrpca1.html |
So you put it on every time you park when it's raining, then take it off when you drive?... sounds really silly. Engine bay is waterproof anyways.
Besides, does it even rain that much where you live? not like there are torrential downpours all the time right? |
Most rain guards allow the vent to still function without water having a direct path to pour onto your engine. All the OEM vents are going to have this feature...well, the ones with functional vents that is.

My Sti didn't have anything blocking it from rain or birds. My Sti ate a small bird which I have to remove from atop the intercooler once... =D

Will it better to select the rain protector option for aftermarket hood, if they have or it is not necessary? Thanks again. |

If pure cosmetic, just block them off. No worries. |
Keep in mind on the STI it's only cooling the intercooler. Many use the scoops as air intakes for the engine, requiring something to deal with the water.
