Paint chip or paint defect? please help.

Hi, some of you may have seen this picture posted in the detailing section of this forum. I got some great responses but I would like some more opinions before i take it to the dealer and collision specialist tomorrow. I want to make a case to the dealership to have it covered under warranty if it is indeed a paint defect.

The paint looks almost raised, higher than the surrounding areas, the damage is located above the door handle, and there is another slightly raised area near the same spot, with paint still on it. I'll see if i can get any more pictures.

Collision experts, I need your help! the car is a 2013 model year, with just under 16000 miles. I bought it used of last year.

:thanks:

Not 100% sure, but it doesn't look like a paint chip to me. It almost looks like the paint bubbled up there and just popped.

Looks to me like something dinged it, causing a spider crack that is now lifting up from the center. I vote paint chip.

On the other hand, this paint sucks so bad that I support any effort to make the manufacturer fix your issue. I kind of feel that all the paint is defective by design.

Key in hand. Go to open door. Shit!
Done it myself!

Mine has orange peel and the front bumper has a slightly different hue than the rest of the body. I've often wondered if others have similar complaints.

Yep. A mismatch between the al-yoo-minium and plastic is common.

ETA: OP's pic looks like herpes! Or galvanic corrosion, but I have no clue how that would happen.

Yep, still an ordinary rock chip.

Every car below $60K for the last 20 years has had some level of orange peel.
At least the term is fairly accurate for ours.

Damn green paints. I worked for a dude once who INSISTED we use only "green" cleaning products. Since I got paid for extra hours it would typically take to get the same results it would take from a "normal" enviro-safe cleaner, I didn't care, and he got to pay out the ass for gallons of that green crap that didn't do shit.

ETA: Elbow grease can help with the peel.

welp, it turns out we were all wrong. Its not a paint chip, well, i guess the paint is chipped, but not by a piece of rock.

it turns out that the door was dented very slightly, and the paint peeled, and this was the edge of that dent, which is why it appears raised.

either way, it sucks dink, and they want 480$ (LMAO) to fix it (this is only the paint chip btw, not the dents). I told them thanks, and left, because i aint about to drop half a G to fix this. They also told me it would take 2 days... I was like man r u serial.

also, i appreciate those who tried to stay on topic... ;)

Stay on topic? Since this was your second thread on exactly the same spot I think the topic was pretty played out already!

ON topic grab yourself one of those spot sanding pens and some colour matched touch up paint and get rid of the spot by about 80% for $25.

I can be perfect. For money.
