steering wheel controls

Is there a steering wheel replacement that supports steering wheel controls?

I get that it's a sports car and the purists don't want it. But I would like it if it is available. I don't want to take my eyes off the road to change a song or activate the handsfree mode.

Nope. Wiring would be a pain, and you'd need to get a stereo that's compatible with steering wheel controls too. a major pain to get it all working.

Actually, the OEM Fujitsu Ten HUs used in BRZ models already have SWC capability. There's at least one thread on here where someone connected to it.

But unless the steering wheel's clockspring (AKA roll connector) happens to already contain 3 extra, unused circuit paths, it wouldn't be practical to add buttons to the wheel, or swap in a different wheel.

@SVXdc I saw a picture of a steering wheel replacement on here before, (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...9&d=1390936374)

It looks like the 4 pins on the left is the airbag wires, the center is wired for power, horn, and ground, but that's all I see on the pictures I saw. There are pins in all slots of the connector, but I don't know if the backside is wired. I do know there are provisions for the cruise control, but I don't know how they're pinned or how many wires there are connected.

do you know if any of the others are pinned, or what the pinout is?

I doubt they just left wires hanging, and I'm too cautious to pull apart my own steering column wheel on a hunch, but if it's as "simple" as pulling the wire harness, soldering 3-4 wires to it to match the STI, and plugging in a replacement then I'm surprised no one else has done it.
