Unfortunate First Post

Hello everyone,
this is my first post here as I was waiting to get some mods done. However after having my FRS for 4 months and putting on 15000km I have bad news to share. I feel that I should share this to speak to a quality of the 86 family that many people may not consider when purchasing any of the 86 models.

Heres my FRS in december, few mods made, just cosmetic Attachment 100379

And sadly, heres my FRS shortly after the accident
Attachment 100383

I was travelling at 90km/h when a careless driver attempted a U turn on a corner, right in front of me resulting in a collision with the rear of their vehicle, and then going head on with a third party. I am pleased to report that despite the damage, and both airbags being deployed, both my sister and I walked away completely unharmed other then whiplash. I really do feel that if we had been driving another vehicle that might not have been the case.

On the plus side, A cop witnessed the accident and I'm completely clear of any legal charges, just working with the insurance companies to get back in an FRS as soon as possible

wow, sorry for your loss but glad you and your sister are okay!

Carlitoz3 01-12-2015 10:54 PM

Wow, goes to show you always have to be careful out their. Good to know nobody got hurt.

hmong337 01-12-2015 10:56 PM

Yea, quite a shitty first post. Hope things work out for ya. Get a BRZ this time around ahah. I see you're in Milton. Not too far from me... Waterloo.

AVodka14 01-12-2015 11:01 PM

Glad you all are okay. Don't get a black one again.

Burrcold 01-12-2015 11:07 PM

Ouch! So glad you're okay. Don't worry the car can be replaced...and welcome! :)

Hot Lava 01-12-2015 11:15 PM

Thanks for posting. Good to know we drive a car that can provide excellent protection in a collision. Another gold star to go along with the handling and braking. Glad no one was hurt.

Pete156 01-12-2015 11:50 PM

Someone was looking out for you! Glad they were.

D_Thissen 01-13-2015 12:10 AM

Glad you're safe. It's just a car, it can be replaced! Welcome

Chen 01-15-2015 06:49 AM

How did the other car look?

Sorry to hear about your accident! This nearly happened to me this past weekend. Was just driving straight in my lane when an oncoming car attempted to make a left turn directly in front of me. Thankfully I got on my brakes and horn and managed to avoid a collision.

I don't want to say curse, but these cars definitely have a low profile (literally). After two different cars this morning didn't see me in their blindspot and nearly swerved into me, I looked over at my wife and told her I needed an even louder exhaust. She just rolled her eyes.

When driving my GTI (which is a good 7" higher) on the same commute, I'd say I get about half the amount of near collisions.

Buy Lava! Everybody seems to stay well away from me (so far)!
Mind you it won't help if they are in front of me!!!
Once again impressed with the fact that everybody walked away relatively unscathed from what looks like a nasty crash.

People really don't even see me in my 91 NA Miata. Gets scary at times

Good effort!

Not surprising at all - the NA Miata is even lower and smaller than the Twins.

With any of the lightweight sports cars (Miata, Elise/Exige, S2000, Twins, RX-7, NSX, etc.) you really need to factor in the low profile and drive defensively.

Anytime I'm stuck in another car's blindspot, I try to give it some throttle to let them know I'm there. Seems to work from what I can tell. The times I've nearly been hit are when I haven't done that.

86geek 01-15-2015 12:25 PM

Good to hear you and your sister are okay. From the looks of that picture I'm sure the insurance company will say the car is not repairable. Get a different color like Halo or maybe Asphalt but that's sort of close to the color Raven.

Now that my exhaust is loud and noticable, I have noticed people slow down to let me pass or can acknowledge my existence

Glad you and the sibling are ok, and that you'll be back in the Twins fold soon.

And living in the frozen north as I do, go with a lighter color next time. Dirt isnt nearly as noticeable ;)

It was a CRV that caused the accident, she's just missing a rear quarter panel. but the 03ish Mazda 3 I went head on with I'm sure is a write off as well.

I should be in a 2015 within 2 weeks now. and yes I'm getting raven again, naming it VADER 86 :D

jdmblood 01-18-2015 12:10 AM

Damn dude unfortunate story. Glad you guys are okay though

T-WALT 01-21-2015 09:02 PM

Pleased to annouce I finished up at the dealership yesterday, Should have the car sometime next week.
VADER 86, is coming direct from the dealer with:
20% tint,
GReddy EVO3 &
Seibon TS style carbon hood

& of course I order my custom "VADER 86" plates :D

shifter907 01-21-2015 09:21 PM

I've seen people roll BRZs/FRSs and have walked away unharmed. It's still surprising to me that Toyota made a car so light without having to skimp on quality of safety parts.
