The comparison still looses five times over with the high value might as well hand out some optimism.

The OFT is the easy way to address that, especially with E85. And I can not understand people who complain about the dip. Is it that hard to learn to keep your engine out of it?

Exactly, once again any complaints people had about the way the car came from the factory can be easily solved by the aftermarket (as the manufacturers have stated several times)!

They've said countless times that there will be no major change to the powerplant in these cars, can we please stop these rumors? lol:thumbsup:

Huh? Where is your source for that? Tada himself stated that he wanted to make an engine change with this car eventually.

TBH I may have been mistaken, but I thought I'd read something where they were talking about the engine for the cars (mainly the possibility of FI) and there was also discussion of doing a 2.5L and they said it wouldn't happen. Can't remember where I read it, because I read way too damn much stuff about these cars and cars in general.

Yet when I meet up with rival sports car chief engineers (and we do at various times around the world), we all talk about what we call the Devil’s Cycle of ever-increasing power, speed, weight and price. So I started to work on the packaging requirements for this different sort of sports car.

The article you use for your basis that the engine will change:
Quote:

"I hope to make an engine upgrade at least one time with this car," Tada told Drive.
"We [have] already tried all possibilities and there are several types of 86 prototypes at the Toyota proving ground now; one is a turbocharger, one is bigger displacement and [the other is a] special hybrid system."
...
"The boxer [engine] has benefit for low centre of gravity, but [we will develop the] concept for the next generation car first and then we will look at best possible options to fit," he said.

I'm not sure we will see multiple trim levels with sales ~20k/year.

I think what will happen is that additional creature comforts will be added to appeal to a wider audience.

Look at the STI, a niche market car. 2004 was the rawest, not even a CD player, and ever since then the suspension has been modified and more creature comforts started to be added to the car. Same with the S2K AP1 vs AP2.

If he had wanted more power he would have had it from the start!

Tada:
“We visited with car enthusiasts in Japan, America and Europe. The feedback we received was almost always the same. They said there are a lot of sports cars with high horsepower that are very fast, but these are not the sports cars that they want to have. They want small compact cars that are controllable, that they can tune themselves. However, that kind of sports car is not on the market. Therefore, these sports car enthusiasts are forced to continue to use older cars from a long time ago, because there is no new alterative on the market.”

“We also went to competitors and asked them: “Why do you focus on fast cars?” The response almost always was: ‘Actually, we really don’t want to develop these kinds of cars. But once we bring a plan to develop that car to our board, the first question the directors of the company would ask is: How much faster is that car compared to what the competition has? How many seconds faster around the Nürburgring? What about the acceleration? These questions always come up because numerical performance is the easiest to understand.

It is impossible to develop a sports car that appeals to everybody. If you try to please everybody, the car would be half-baked for everybody, and not particularly good for anybody. This car is not developed by a committee, or by consensus.”

“When we first presented this idea to our advertising people, they were drastically opposed to this idea. They complained that the car doesn’t have a particularly fast time on the circuit, it does not use any new technology. They also could not think of a catchy headline for the catalogue.”

Yep and Drive is know for their truthful reporting, incredibly accurate quotes and just over all journalistic reliability!

Like Strat said enjoy using this as speculation fodder all you want.

Some of you do realize that Mr. Tada can plan anything he want's for the FR-S, but unless the suits and money agree it's not going anywhere, right?
