Is the Servicing Interval Every 6 or 9 Months?

What are the servicing intervals supposed to be? I was under the impression it was every nine months for the FA20 Subaru engine.

Six months or 6000 miles (revised mileage for 2015 models).

In Australia I was advised 9 months for my MY15. That struck me as odd so (as a precaution) I changed its oil and filter at 1200km and the, though the oil wasn't super black, it certainly was far from new.

I'd have a hunt round on your own regions website to confirm and not sure about how its done in Canada, but in Australia every serviced car has a sticker placed in the driver side corner of the windshield noting when the next service is due.

The colour of used engine oil is almost always no indication of it's quality. If you want to know how long your oil will last, then you need to test it.

Unfortunately, I have not found any testing labs as convenient as Blackstone here in Australia.

just an FYI, it's worthless to determine the condition of your oil based upon the colour. Carbon turns to black when heated, so immediately after oil change, your 'new' oil will turn black. :)

EDIT - I really need to read all comments before posting/quoting. Guy above hits it on the head

It may help for you to read the Owner's Manual.

Did they really revise the oil change schedule to 6k on 15's?

YES.

My Service person said that the new 6mo/6k miles apply to all FRS's. It's a policy starting now in 2015.

Is this how it is for everyone else?

If that's the case we should be getting a letter in the mail.

I was pretty sure I read somewhere that it was 9 months servicing for this as applies to the new FA20 engine. This being the case, the service manuals were going by the standard 6 months to start. Does anyone else remember hearing 9 months?

Never heard of 9 months. I only remember 7.5 months or 7,500 miles (whichever comes first) or 6 months or 7,500 miles, or 6 months or 6,000 miles (whichever comes first).

Though the latest I've heard is 6 months or 6,000 miles (whichever comes first).

Again: what does your Owner's Manual tell you?
Or are you going by what someone else's oil change interval says?
