Custom USB Cover Switch
2 Attachment(s)
I had seen a custom USB cover switch a while back that looked like one of those red fighter pilot style buttons. Anyone seen this before?

Lots of results if you search Ebay for "Missile Switch". Maybe use a Dremel to make the switch's faceplate fit over the usb jack?

My friend used to have that exact switch to turn on and off the subs in his Porsche. If you're looking to use that particular switch cover, I don't think it would work very well. It'll be too big and stick out about a centimeter. Also the way the hinges work, you'd need a bit more space to make it work. It would go nicely in the area next to the switch to dim the dash lights (imo).
The thing with switches in my experience is making sure theres enough clearance behind for the wiring and clearance for hinges. Hence the cheap rubbery one that comes stock...it's pretty much the easiest way to have a cover with minimal space. If you do find something that works, I'd be excited to see! |
Who the hell ruins a Porsche with subs. What. Also, I imagine there would be an issue with the hinging on the switch. The current plastic cover has a simple pull-swivel that is just thick rubber that slides out. For that kind of cover we'd have to drill two itty bitty screws in to the dash surround to flip it open and closed.

It was actually a really well done custom install he did on the car. It was an '83 944. He took the spare tire out and used the wheel well as the box for 2 10" audiobanh alum subs. It was a super clean install where you don't even see the subs. |

Or wait a minute. Do Porsche owners actually change their own tires? |

Yea, exactly. He'd listen to the subs during the two hours with the car off, drain the battery, and also get the tow truck driver to give him a jump. Hahaha =) He just kept a fix-a-flat in the car instead. Even with a spare tire, I usually try using a fix-a-flat first and driving off to change the tire else where that's not the side of the road. I guess it was a trade off he was willing to make to have the BOOM BOOM It was ages ago, so I don't have the original pics, but here's a picture of the picture. There was also a cover so that people couldn't see it through the back windshield |

Holy shit OP delivered to subs-in-Porsches. OP: You won't find much appreciation for that 'round these parts, sadly. It is a super clean install, and I'm sure it sounds great. Hell, it looks great. But 'round here we value cars going quickly around corners as lightly as possible.
