OFT - Flashing to stock error

I'm getting ready to move from Missouri to Atlanta and am trying to flash back to stock for the trip. I'm currently running a 93 stage 1 tune and am worried that I won't find a 93 octane gas station when I fill up during the trip.

Whenever I try to flash back to the stock ecu file, I get an error saying 'oops...an error occurred while writing to the ECU. Please try again.'

I'm 100% positive that the connections are secure.

The steps I'm following are like so:
1) Car is off. I plug the OFT in.
2) It asks me to key on and confirm, so I do.
3) When I select write, it starts to communicate with ECU then gives me the error.

Anyone know how to fix this?

You sure? I'd check that one more time... maybe even some light wiggling around once its in the plug. That always seemed to fix the issues when they have come up with me.

Alright, I'll go play around with that and report back.

Might be best to test connectivity using logging or diagnostic mode.

Once you correct the issue and connection is solid during logging/diagnostics then try writing.

Writing with an intermittent connection is not a good idea.

Assume your turning ignition fully on , not just accessory.

Yep, the ignition is fully on.

I jiggled it around plenty, blew into both ports, still have the same issue.

When I go to diagnostics and look at the current file that the ECU has, the OFT has no issues reading it. It's only when I try to write that the problem occurs. I also noted that the problem happens no matter which file is being written, the stock ECU or another stg1 93 tune.

Try using the realtime logging screen, does that work.

When I accessed that, it told me to 'please update the template file', so...maybe that's the real issue here.

That could be it! If you connected it to open flash manager and it auto updated from a version that required a template update as well, it could cause that problem.

http://openflashtablet.com/Automotiv...ads/index.html

You'll have to manually download the template file from there and upload it to your tablet from within open flash manager.

Alright, everything is completely updated to the latest version. Now the real time data display works fine, however it still can't write.:mad0260:

have you ever edited your roms ??

When I go to read the ECU that way everything appears to work fine, I get no errors and the information displays correctly.

No, I have never edited any rom...just loaded the stock tunes from the OFT site.

Something else curious I noticed is that when I tried to upload the stage 1 91 tune to my OFT today (after everything was updated) it said that file I selected was not compatible. However I know this to be false as I selected the 900C version, the exact same one I've used before and loaded onto my car. I have the US 6mt.

Ok thats actually good in a way.

so diagnostics\ ecuinfo says your a 900C map and oft will not load 900C maps

it appears the oft has somehow got confused as to what your stock rom calid is so its refusing to load or flash roms to your car.

you did not somehow swap oft with someone :-)

not sure if the oft guys can remote reset it but it looksxlike you vwill have to call them and explain.

regarding your road trip the only difference between 91 and 93 tunes is ignition timing advance over 5000 rpm so if you do have to fill up with 91 just keep the rpm below 5000. till you get some 93 back in it.

the oft tunes are better than stock tune knock wise anyway.

Awesome, that's good to know. I'll get in touch with them.

I really appreciate all your help and taking the time to trouble shoot this with me!
