A Small Easter Egg
One little hidden feature I just noticed. If your car is shut off and you want to check the odometer reading, just press the "ODO / TRIP" button. Not only will the multifunction display light up and show you your current mileage (and yeah, I know a lot of cars do this), but also the whole instrument cluster will illuminate, and as a small bonus, the fuel gauge will "wake up" and show you how much gas is in your tank. Nice!
I dare you to not walk out to your garage right now to see it for yourself. |
Sweet! Thanks for the tip :thanks:
|
Cool indeed
|
I'm going to try this in the morning!
|
I have to in my imagination... I live on the 3rd floor... And I have to walk out there at 6am anyway... So tempting to do it now though.
|
You made me go to the garage...but I was going there anyways to admire the car...LOL
|
very cool...when I was going through a few things...on the ODO...it says something like
S-ON? G-OFF? what are those two things..?? |

Video or it doesn't happen ;)

it's cool, but honestly, it does not matter what these# show, just sayin... (you still get thanks though)
|
also, if you set the rev limit, every time you turn on the car, the rpm meter will jump to whatever you set the limit to, shine the light, pause, then return to idle. Just to remind you of your settings :) thought that was pretty cool too.

you can customize the "welcome" message that displays on the radio when you start the car, scion has put this feature in their radios almost since the beginning. the radio manual should tell you how to change it |

My nick :) Esoteric Bastard Operator From Hell... BOFH was a comedy series about an IT guy written by Simon Travaglia in the 90s. Perhaps i'll make another video showing how to do this :) |
Thanks for the tip!
Yes...I did walk out to my parking lot at work and check this out. :P |

haha neat!

Awesome little feature. Useful for me at the dealership the other day. I asked them why there was 20 miles on one of the cars on the lot since I was told that it wasn't test driven.
The face of the guy was priceless, as I looked like some sort of wizard. |

Our Middle Eastern spec Toyota 86's have a blank on that switch. What does it do - just change the digital speed read out? Anything else? |
Quote:
It's a MPH/KPH switch. It changes the units in the digital speedometer. Nothing else as far as I can tell. |
Speed ON, Gravity OFF. You know... preparation for warp speed!

It's quite handy, because I live about 20 minutes from the US border in Canada, so I visit the states frequently to buy gas, milk, cheese, etc (which is dirt cheap there!), I just push the button and I can monitor my speed in Miles.. I assume the US versions are the same. |
Thanks for this tip, and the gear selection is very cool for a manual car! Love that!
|
esobofh,
You sir seriously just made me laugh, I love how you opened every possible orifice in the car at the begining of the video on how to set the shift indicators... You sir are the man! |
