MAD-086...lukey86's build

So I figured that I've done enough to the car so far to qualify for it's own thread. My plan with this build is to start with the exterior mods and then move on to performance upgrades and finally interior.

First day at home :D
https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...57667233_o.jpg

Crystal Eye tails (sorry for crappy iPhone image)
https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...25&oe=56E521D9

Fitting Winjet headlights, when I got these the wiring was completely wrong, I had to cut the loom and start over. According to the store I bought them from it was a factory defect. Anyone else have that problem?
https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...64528551_o.jpg

The Berk dual muffler delete. I initially bought this just because it was cheap and because after seeing some impressive reviews and youtube videos I wanted to hear it for myself. Once the engine work starts and the rest of the system is replaced a track pipe will be way too loud and a sensible replacement will be needed.
https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...62&oe=56D39FD2

Test fitting the XXR's. seeing them like this makes you wonder how the hell they would ever fit!
https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...b9b6110e9c92ec

Best way to remove old coil-overs? Bottle Jack..
https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3c&oe=5720E3BF

First day with the new wheels. I honestly just sat there and looked at it for like 2 hours lol
https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...fd&oe=56E6CE0A

Painted the calipers red
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...7&d=1420364226

Painted all the badges black and Nite Shaded the bumper turn signals and centre tail light
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...3&d=1419564947
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...5&d=1419565034

Removed the old DRL's and ran a link wire to the winjet DRL's. Problem was part of the bumper was visible behind the bezel. Easy fix..
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...8&d=1420364367
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...9&d=1420364419

Pulling the guards. This stopped most of the rubbing. PBM's and LCA's to add a tiny little bit more camber should stop it completely..

Need a place to store your coil-over wrenches and lock-nut key? Heres your answer! A sharp stanley knife is the best tool to cut the foam away. Better than having them rattle around in the glove box or boot

That sits rather nicely! How are you finding the yellow speeds?

Actually really good. I mean, they're not top shelf or anything at $1100. But so far they've performed really well. Good value IMO

Looks like you're rubbing in back. No?

It rubs a little where the rear bar meets the body, but it's only minor. The guards are pulled about 10mm

lukey86 01-08-2015 09:27 PM

I wasn't gonna go with a lip kit but this Grazio unit only lowers the front by 5mm. Perfect!

So this happened

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...6&d=1420798479

The price you pay for aggressive wheel fitment. At some point I've hit a bump at full lock and the wheel has hit the fender slightly warping it. It no longer lines up with the rocker panel :(

Look like CF fenders are now on the mod list as well. Hopefully a little flexibility will fix the issue

The got me doing 144 but were nice enough to drop it down to 137 so I could keep my licence and my car. Plus a $450 fine to top it off :/

Seriously uncool. A friend's entire family was airlifted after being hit head on by a corvette that was doing "In excess of 100 mph." Ford's airbags saved the two kids, his wife and his mother in law. Somehow the dirtbag survived. 3 helicopter airlift. The kids are still waking up with nightmares 3 months later. Adults are still in rehab.

If you can't even see a cop, think of all the other things you can't see.

Take it to the track.

he's in australia. I'm pretty sure speed there is measured in KPH, not MPH. so OP wasn't in excess of 100mph. i get what you're trying to say, but OP was traveling at speeds that are the norm for a freeway

btw OP your car looks mean.

Sorry bout the family in the story

Thanks...and yeah maybe a little context wouldve helped lol, 140kph isn't that much over the limit here. But in no way am I defending my actions. Speeding is speeding no matter how you look at it. My first ticket in like 10 years or something like that so I guess I was due lol

Still gonna go with the Grazio? As lame as it sounds Ebay has some pretty sweet lips and CS(And Chargespeed Reps) for a damn good price. I went with the GT Lip and CS skirts and rear aprons. I don't regret it one bit.

Yeah I'm hearing you on the Ebay stuff, so cheap! I'll probably Ebay the skirts and aprons but the lip needs to be as low a profile as possible. It's already too low as it is, but it's a good price to pay for the way it looks :party0030: lol

Right? I occasionally scrape(only the lip) on huge dips, but that's about it. Get a flat panel lip is key.

It definitely won't drive like a race car, but its not so bad. The best way to minimize scrub is set max camber in the front (lowering will obviously add camber to the rear. The fronts wont scrub much at all with the height set at around one finger between tyre and wheel arch, although when it does scrub it has the potential to do what it did in my case and rip the entire fender liner away :(

The rears scrub only during very hard cornering and when hitting big bumps on the road. I have found though that they dont scrub as much now as they did before. Mainly because theres a plastic clip on the inside rear of the fender which the tyre slowly eats away until it doesnt touch anymore the downside is its one of the clips that holds your bumper on lol but don't worry its still pretty tight. I also rolled my rear fenders about 5mm to add a little more room. But be casreful if youre gonna do this because rolling too far can form dents in the panel around the fender. I have a one finger gap in the rear as well, raising the car to two fingers will stop the scrubbing but wthout adjustable rear end the lack of neg camber causes the wheels to poke way to much and look really silly.

An adjustable rear end is next on my upgrade list along with bagging the car and fitting wrx hubs to fit a set of 18x10 Enkei RS05RR's

Yaiks thats alot of info right there! Thank you for taking your time. Right now I am not planning to drive it like a race car. Maybe in the future.

So I am about to pull the trigger on the coilover first, did you have a custom spring rates for your coilovers?

I would love to see your car on bags😁

All good man happy to help

I didn't get custom spring rates but a higher rate in the rear might've been a good thing

lukey86 08-03-2015 07:44 AM

woke up to find this..

lukey86 11-04-2015 06:40 AM

So after months of scrubbing, scraping, lens popping and fender bending I decided to throw out the old coilovers and get some fresh air

I went with airlift because it looked like the most comprehensive kit out there plus it has all the features I need. The kit went in fairly well with the only issue being a loud clunking noise in the rear every time I hit a bump. Havent figured it out yet but the main suspect is the pillow-ball joints. Other than that the system runs fairly well. Takes some messing around to get the ride quality half decent and it plays havoc with the traction control but other than that its ok
