NHRA Drag Racing

Not sure how many NHRA fans we have here, but another bombshell for the 2015 season happened today: http://motorsportstalk.nbcsports.com...artner=ya5nbcs

After Ford and Castrol announced in 2013 that they would be leaving John Force at the end of 2014, this is a big blow to the sport. Rumors have Force driving a Dodge this year but I have not been able to find a reliable source to back that up.

I will be at pomona for the first and last race of the season.
I sat in Terry McMillen's car. The insta-gator.

Time for F1 style cost saving measures. One engine must last through the four qualifying sessions and then one engine for eliminations. Put in intervals for other common failure points or expensive parts that get replaced after every run.

I always wondered if the Al-Anabi team was some wealthy sheiks toy team - just something to do to burn a few bucks, make some noise and have a little fun - or if it was put together as a way to boost tourism to Qatar. The blow some cash with a couple nitro teams theory always seemed more plausible, since I dont think too many folks in the US would make travel plans to Qatar based solely on the fact they run a couple nitro cars here lol. Maybe falling oil prices have killed their racing budget???

Bingo! This little game of chicken that OPEC is playing with US shale oil producers is really starting to hurt the member countries and rich oil families.

Not to mention Russia.

John Force Racing finally announced that they will be running Chevy Camaro bodies this year. Said they did the deal right before Christmas, so I wonder why they wait until now to announce the brand.....Force started out with Chevy way back when..........

SOME PRE-SEASON THUNDER........

I told my wife that right after they went to 1000 feet for the Nitro class that within 2-3 years, they'd be back up to 330+ mph. Looks like I hit it right on the head.

Another Surprise For 2015

Victory has to be paying them a shipload of money to leave H-D.

The season is here! Saturday night at 10:00 on ESPN2 (I'm sure after the basketball game runs long) is qualifying with finals on Sunday night.

I love the smell of Nitro in the morning............

swarb 02-06-2015 06:33 PM

drove by there today, they were doing test runs, heard them from over a mile away!!

White64Goat 02-10-2015 02:44 PM

If it was Friday, that was qualifying, rounds 1 and 2.

Well, I just learned something today that I did not know. The NHRA is currently on the 1st leg of the 'Western Swing' with 3 races in a row out west. Jimmy Prock was explaining what they have to do to make the cars run up on the mountain in Colorado in the thinair like they do at sea level. One of the things he mentioned was compression ratio, which I figured to be in the 9 or 10 to 1 ratio and when he said...............6.3 to 6.5 to 1, I was not expecting it to be that low especially when you're making 10,000hp. Just goes to show how much that big ass blower is cramming in there..........wow.
