Gear shift 'step'.

Probably a daft question, but I recently got rid of my MTEC shifter and I'm after an ARC item. Now I know the fitment is 12x1.25 but I'm being given the option of ordering one with 'step' or 'no step'. I can only imagine this is to do with the reverse lock out, so could someone confirm which one I need before I place my order?
