Tom's Tail Lights/Diode XP80 Comparison Video

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday I installed my Tom's tail lights. I decided on these after doing a lot of comparison. I haven't really found a video that compares stock lights to the Tom's for things like light intensity. So I made one while I installed.

Here are some pics from the install:

And the video is below. I also compared the @DiodeDynamics XP80 LED bulbs for the front signals:

Enjoy!

It's kinda disappointing to see that the Diode dynamic xp80 lights are dimmer by that much. They're advertised to be much brighter than OEM... And they are 90 bucks.

Otherwise looks good.

I don't want to say that this video is misleading, but it does not tell the whole story. I also replaced my bulbs with XP80s front and rear, and I'd like to add a few things:

1. I agree painting the bulb base yellow was an error.
2. The LED bulb as a whole is actually brighter than the OEM bulb. However, the reflector design means that it's hard to focus the distributed light output coming from an LED array as much as the point source light from an incandescent.
3. As a result, if he had moved the camera off-center, you would have noticed that the replacement XP80 bulb is actually brighter from every angle other than directly ahead or behind. Granted directly ahead and behind is useful and important, but it's worth noting this bulb makes you more noticeable to off-axis traffic that might not be paying as much attention to you (think the car in the lane you will be moving INTO rather than the car in the lane you are already traveling.)

You can see this in the video I took:

I agree with everything @Stang70Fastback stated, and I agree that these bulbs are very bright and the housing has a lot to do with it.

I would like to add that the XP80s are arguably the brightest amber LED bulbs I have ever seen (perhaps the Triton V3's are even brighter, but that is overkill to me). I just wish they didn't cost $90/pair... But would I buy them again? Probably.

Ha, I have swapped out all the ext lights to Dynamic Diode's LEDs, except the front signals, because dang, it's pretty expensive for the XP80's, especially after I have already splurged so much on DD... :\
