TPS light on in cold temp

So lately here in Northern California it has been below freezing when i have woken up to get ready for work and each day (3 days in a row now) when i start my 2015 brz the tps light is on but all tire pressures are within spec and then once it warms up (outside air temp) the tps light goes away.. Thoughts?

When gas is cold, its pressure drops. The air pressure in your tires is directly related to the temperature of the tire. The outside air makes the tire cold and the pressure goes down which turns on the TPS light, but once you start driving they heat up and the pressure rises again to an acceptable level. If the outside temp has been staying pretty low, you probably should add some air into your tires.

Yep, that pretty much defines it. Also, the TPS sensors are not set to the exact air pressure required for your tires, but something well below it. Chances are as @Rota says, you probably need air regardless. The cold weather was just enough to make it drop below the sensor level.

Of the five cars in my family, 4 have sensors and envariably on the first cold day of Fall, at least half of them need air. The FR-S has needed air every Fall.

this is what i thought as well. air>gas ratios. it threw me for a loop last night tho when it was cold after dark and dropped down into the 40s and the light never came back on. i have nitrogen in my tires as well so im not sure if i want to add more being that the cold season only lasts about two weeks here in nor cal.

It's the temperature drop. When I used to live in the Midwest, I always had to add more air in the tires, and do it more often, in winter.

lol @ nitrogen. I'll bet the stealership charged you extra right?

Rule of thumb is for every 10 degrees in air temp, tires change by 1 lb. Not sure if this holds true for Nitrogen........

The outside is almost 80% Nitrogen so it's close enough.

I feel your pain. I've had to fill up my tires twice now this winter. I guess that's the price we pay for never getting snow.

I had the same thing happen on my Series.Blue ever morning, just fill it up a pound or two and itll go away.
