Went out to grab a few things this morning. Had the option to play around with the car in doing so. I got launch control and flat foot shifting. Pretty neat stuff.

Thanks, more than excited about my new find in my new to me ride. At the same time, I'm curious on what else I'll find done to it.

Kind of a noob to the whole tune.:bonk: never really dealt with it. So i'm guessing I'll need to buy the dongle, find out what the license is all about. Take it to a shop and have it ran.

Many thanks for the all helpful comments.

So you bought a used FR-S with 17k miles on it and you are now excited to find out that the previous owner screwed you and sold you a car with a mod that has technically voided the warranty?

I would consider myself screwed and would demand $$ back from the seller.

If you bought that way knowing about the tune, that is one thing, for the seller to not disclose this is fraud.
Same thing you will have to do now to get warranty work done on the engine if something goes wrong.....

AND now you have no way to return the car to the stock ROM without the license info.

I imagine a Toyota service tech has a way to put the stock ROM back on there.

Jeebus, Stu, are you ever happy about anything?

To each his own, excited? Yes,:thanks:
The whole reason why I bought the FRS to enjoy it for what it was designed for, pure driving exhilaration. I think I speak for a lot of FRS/BRZ etc. enthusiasts when I say that.

I was indeed planning on doing the same modifications and more in the future anyways, so to find what I found was... Yes exciting. If I didn't want something to modify I would of bought a minivan... Or something along those lines. So warranty, I'm sure theres ways around it, I've read somewhere, I'll have to look, that owners managed to use there warranty for certain issues. And after all said and done, with what I plan on doing with my car, warranty wouldn't matter. I appreciate your deep, deep concerns with my latest purchase. Nice fella:clap:
But man, this car is awesome!

Sure I would just be ecstatic if I just bought a used car to find that it has had modifications that would mean my warranty was toast AND I did not receive any way to fix it, and no mention of this from the seller.

Kind of like buying a very high end gaming computer to find that it has Windows XP on it and no way to reinstall the OS.

Yes you will need to buy ecutek cable
or some tuners rent them out
or just go to or talk to ecutek tuner and they should be able to help you get licience info you need, their may be fee to reissue licience/dongle.

toyota/subaru Dealer will not be able to reflash car with ecutek racerom installed they are locked out.
they will be able to run standard diagnostics though.

Should you need dealer reflash you will need to reflash a "stock" ecutek rom with appropriate ecutek cable and licience. or ecutek tuner can do this. This then allows dealer reflash, but it will wipe your ecutek licience from ecu, they can be reissued though.

try the ecutek vendors/tuners guys on this forum

delicious tuning , moto-mike ect sure they will help you out it was probably tuned by them anyway

Huh? I'm not into high end gaming computers, but wouldn't this situation be more like buying said computer and it having an upgraded OS with more features than the original? Your analogy would be more like buying an 86 and later finding out the previous owner had dropped a prius engine in it and scrapped the FA20.

And he could always flash back to stock, right? So the warranty isn't exactly toast.

Not trying to argue, but just confused by the analogy.

Have you tried Excel for iOS? That's what I use and I've only found very subtle differences... Just curious as to whether it's worth it to run Windows just for Microsoft Office. (Disclaimer: I do love me some iOS)
