Alarm question

Do all models of the FRS come with alarms standard?

How good is the alarm? I have had a Viper in the past and it was excellent, but after about 6 years it went to shit and had to be pulled. Thoughts on the standard alarm vs aftermarket?

In the North American market the following have built in alarms: BRZ, Monogram, 10 Series, and Release Series 1.0.

Though everybody gets a panic button.

Do car alarms do anything other than be annoying?

I had to invest in an aftermarket alarm after my locked BRZ (with the alarm activated) was broken into without having the alarm triggered. No windows were broken. The thief simply stuck something in through the window, unlocked the door, opened it...and did not set off the factory alarm. Useless.

I believe it only comes with an engine immobilizer.

Mine came with an aftermarket alarm from the dealership.. no idea what kind it is, but it lits up a blue light every seconds after I locked my car.. I noticed it's also sensitive because last time, I was taking out my wheels, I accidently touch the rotor with a tool and it beep about 3 times then stopped, but it keeps doing it everytime I accidently hit something on the car..

Alarms can and do work. A few years ago I had a meeting at country club ( I'm not a member- (gaaack)

Anyway, in broad daylight at noon, in front of the fucking front door, my Honda Element was broken into and every single piece of camera gear i own was stolen. They must have used a van to unload the entire vehicle. They took everything except my seats. Must have taken 15-20 min to get it all out.

In the middle of the day. At a country club. Three days before I had to shoot a huge wedding.
Bastards at the country club must have been working with the thieves as look outs.

My gear was insured so thankfully it was all replaced. But- in this instance the alarm would have stopped them.

It won't always work in every circumstance, but for obvious cases like mine, a good alarm would save the day. The viper is a good system and costs $700 or so. I'm getting one for sure. Plus a kill switch that no one could ever find, especially with a wailing siren that cannot be disconnected even if they cut the battery cables.

Nope. Beep just means locked and engine immobilizer on.

Sometimes, the dealership will throw in a remote start/alarm as a freebie or as an extra dealer-installed optional equipment.
