I went with the 6/80k warranty deal. As someone mentioned above, I'm willing to pay the extra to make sure that it's covered the entire time I'm making payments on it. I also opted for LoJack and Permaplate, because again, I don't want to have to worry about anything during my time owning the car.

If you get a Subaru Added Security extended warranty don't buy any additional tire warranty's! Most all the Subaru Added Security warranties INCLUDE tire/road hazard coverage.

I bought it - seems like a no brainer to double the wty for $1,100

The option to purchase a Subaru backed bumper-to-bumper warranty extension from 3/36 to 7/70 on my BRZ with $100 deductible seemed like a no brainer to me, so I bought it. I typically keep my cars bone stock and that means the dealer is on the hook for all warranty repairs. The deciding factor for me was that this factory backed warranty is fully transferable to the next buyer, so you can use it as an ace up your sleeve should you private sale the car when the turbo or convertible BRZ or something more interesting becomes available. In addition, while you can wait and buy post delivery, the cost of the same extended coverage doubles to nearly $2,000 if purchased later, at least according to Colonial Subaru of Danbury Connecticut.

If your planning on serious mods, you should probably save your money as the dealer would likely void your warranty anyway.

Have you ever tried to exercise those extended warranties? They often are 3rd party that doesn't cover shit beyond basic manufacture coverage with tons of disclaimers.

Don't be a dummy, save the money (c) You have time till 30K or 3 years to figure out the reliability piece. And thats a Subaru, not an Alfa or Fiat. All you really need is dents and scratches coverage (at the most).

And lets face it, most of you are going to mod the car at some point. So, warranty goes to .....

With my AAA discount, I was able to get 72mo/75k miles bumper to bumper for only $900 extra with a $50 deductible. Making the deductible $50 instead of $0 dropped the price quite a bit. Also, if I sell the car early, I'll get the unused portion refunded to me. Seemed worth it to me for the piece of mind.

I'm surprised everyone gets offered these services, I've bought 3 new Subaru's from the same dealer and no one tried to sell me any extras.

I fixed your post. The extended warranty isn't Subaru backed, it is backed by whatever dealer you are buying from and who they found to give them the most money for selling a policy. Extended warranties are nice for some people, but they are generally just another way for a dealer to make money off you and can always be purchased after the fact or even 3 years later if you decide to keep your car.

That is not correct, the S.A.S. (Subaru Added Security) Extended Warranties ARE backed by Subaru of America, not a third party. They are an "extension" of the factory warranty.

And that's a proof that you worked with honest dealer!

That's funny because I have never paid a deductible on a factory warranty. It does appear to be backed by Subaru which is nice. The fact that the pricing isn't upfront and the same for all dealers and the fact they offer different plans and deductible amounts still equals each dealer is determining how much profit they want to make off selling one. I know in my BMW days there was a dealer that sold the BMW extended warranties for a best rate and everyone bought it from them. Is there a dealer that does that for Subaru guys?

I had not realized this - didn't think that there were many manufacturers that REALLY stood behind those extended warranties (mostly some third party insurance company).

This is a real plus for Subaru ownership:

I have never bought an extended warranty on any vehicle or product I've ever purchased. I have yet to regret that decision even one time. Think about it. Who ever the insurance company is, they're making a profit off this product which means they take in more than they pay out. Sure, there's always the exception but you can play the odds in Las Vegas too if you wanted to.

On a couple of my recent "interesting" cars, I have purchased extended warranties - as long as they were transferable with the car. The warranties were really not intended for my own use, but as a sales tool for the car when the time came to move on to the next toy. Each time I found that I got a price for the car significantly over the then-current market value (the differential easily paid for the original warranty cost), plus the car sold rather quickly, and even sold sight-unseen to the buyer (until he came to pick it up). So sometimes a cigar is more than just a cigar.

I have had a few extended warranties. One thing to mention is that if you sell the vehicle but do not transfer the warranty (ie-trade it in to a dealer), you get a refund of the unused balance. But these are not really an extension of the factory warranty as much as a replacement.

If you have a 5 year warranty and trade in the car after 2 years, you don't get a full refund because you are still in the original factory warranty (3 years on Subarus). You get a refund for the unused 3 years of the "extended " warranty. And if you have rolled the warranty in to your loan, you are paying interest on it that you won't get back. Hope that helps.
