burning smell when in reverse

Hey folks so I just got my FR-S and it has a burning smell whenever I go into reverse. Should I take it back to the dealer or is this normal? BTW its the 1.0 model.

Thanks in advance and I am glad that I can finally be an actual part of this growing community.

I have had my BRZ for over a year and I have never driven it in reverse more than about 10 feet.

I dont see how you could have done it enough to correlate.
Maybe it smells all the time, and the smell only enters the cabin when in reverse?

That's what I was thinking. It could be the exhaust/muffler since it's a brand new car.

Or OP is doing reverse burnouts :D

Push that little handle beside the shifter all the way down before backing up!

Nah , really it is probably just new car burn off smell that is more noticeable when backing as you are going over it instead of leaving it behind. If is real bad or persists take it in and get it checked.

When I picked up my '13 FRS it had the same smell for the first 200-400km Its all part of the new car experience ;)

Might be smelling the catalysts breaking in as it's a brand new car.

the smell is going away so it looks like it just is the new car experience. Thanks for the info guys

I believe this some type of coating. This smell was fairly common with new twins. I remember smelling this after driving the car and parking it.
