FR-S HID Upgrade?

Hey everyone.

I'm thinking of upgrading my headlights when the new FR-S arrives. Are there any recommendations from folks around here?

I was thinking of ordering a set on ebay, but I would rather consult the experts here first!

Thanks in advance

Do a search. A vendor and members have dropped HIDs into the stock projectors with mixed reactions.

This is a good example of why drop in kits don't work in halogen projectors. There's a TON of glare above the cutoff and the beam pattern is very blotchy. The results are very poor.

If you really want HID lighting on the FR-S then do it right and retrofit in some proper HID projectors. Your results will be infinitely better than using a cheap kit.

So where can we find a set of HID projectors? Since asking you is easier than googling it :search:

Also, the forums over on HIDplanet are very good to for pictures and write-ups on retrofitting.

Which type of replacement projectors fit our cars? I thought I heard H11. :iono:

the low beams are h11 and the high beams are hb3/9005. with my hid kit, the glare is very noticeable from about 5 ft or closer. But from long distance, the cutoff is very good for a drop in hid.

There isn't going to be any projector that's a direct swap for the FR-S headlights just yet. I am sure The Retrofit Source will eventually have a direct projector swap kit (Their "Retro-Quik System") available soon though, just be patient. Modifying your headlight housing and swapping in your favorite single-xenon projector is always an option too but will require a bit more skill and time but give you amazing results.

Even though glare is subjective, your headlights are giving off a ton of glare from a distance even though you think they aren't. Halogen projectors have a certain amount of glare actually built into them to help illuminate road signs at night and throwing an HID kit into these projectors intensifies this amount of glare by at least 3 fold. If you look at the picture posted in this thread, you can see how terrible the cutoff and output looks.

Could someone attach a pic of what good headllght cutoff and outputs would look like? I'm also planning on modifying my headlights but I'm new to all this.

Great bunch of go-getter young bucks. We spent some time talking about the car, they looked over mine, and they made some notes.

They have a set of FR-S headlights already on order on their way to them. They plan on doing a full on bolt in replacement unit like they do for other cars, but no specific timeframe yet. I've volunteered to be a mule for them if they needed one.

I pointed them towards ft86club and mentioned our vendor forums and that this is where I heard of them. Hopefully they'll join in and become a vendor here.

If you are interested you should go to their website, to a "Contact Us" and send them an email. They were very responsive.

i dont know guys, this is one mod i would rather keep stock. unless we can just pop in the BRZ headlights -- and we cant... i dont know anything off eBay is going to be as reliable and good as factory.. i love HID also, but stupid SCION should come up with an upgrade kit instead ! Who can we send this request to !!

have them build one and we will pay for it -- thats the best option.
maybe the 2014 will have it and we can get them... IDK ??
