Fr-s launch RPM
Hey everyone... I'm interested in getting a little feedback on the launch RPM for a good 0-60 run...
Completely stock and MT |
I read on Road and track mag " rev to 5500 rpm and drop the clutch feather the throttle to keep revs at 5000 rpm. the 1-2 shift is critical to achieving best acceleration times." hope that helps a bit.... i dont own one yet so :(

I like it
I will try it out!

dont forget your video camera!!!! :)

On the dragstrip, where they have lots of rubber and sticky vht, you can do 50-75% throttle bouncing off the 7k limiter, and a feather dump wot throttle launch with zero wheel spin.
On our concrete lot in the back of our shop, we were doing 6k rpm feather dump launches and using the throttle to modulate wheel spin for optimum launches. Dragstrip nets the fastest 0-60 times because of the available traction. Going off a basic 1/8 mile mph and E.T. to 0-60 calculator, we ended up at 6.7 sec 0-60 full weight, and 6.48 with some minor weight reduction. On a cooler less windy day these would drop, as our mph was about 3 less than most of the magazine tests. |
given that the frs comes with some non grippy tires, wouldn't a simple tire upgrade dramatically decrease the 0-60 time?

How did the clutch take a launch like that? You have to abuse the clutch to get good 60's so I am not commenting on the technique. Just curious how well the stock clutch can take it.
Evo VIII I had before can be launched like that, but owners were changing clutches at 5k miles. |

We did back to back launches behind the shop for quite a while with a few short drives for cooldown when getting ready to go to the track and that didn't bother it either. So far it seems pretty sturdy. Illusive's STI stock clutch has hundreds of drag passes on it so far, which I take to be a promising sign. |
Very nice. A clutch that can handle some hard launches is nice to have.

Slips are in the track section of the forum. 14.98 full stock and 14.78 with weight reduction and no intake filter.

Going to say this launching in the automatic blows. It only revs up to 2k before torque converter stall. Cant even smoke the tires if you wanted. Found this out at autocross today. Didn't manner what more your in full nannies off or anything. That's sad.

This confirms what I thought was the problem with the vastly different 1/4mi times between the auto and manual. Being this car lacks torque a high rpm launch is the only way to get it out of the hole hard. I have owned quite a few autos and they are simply unable to be launched higher than the torque converter stall (max I've seen is about 3500 on a factory car which was a 350z in my case)
A 2000 rpms launch will absolutely kill the initial acceleration. This sucks for autox as well as drag racing because you are losing a second of time upfront as you launch. |
