Which coil overs are best and why?
So coming from the big truck world and muscle car world, I really have no idea what is the best options for coil overs for these cars.
Essentially I am looking for a decent ride, good performance, some adjust-ability, would like to lower the car a little and be able to run 17x9's with a nice wide tire I was thinking 255x40x17's. I have narrowed my search down to the following however I am not really familiar with any of these brands except KW and Bilstein. There are a lot more options here than what I am used to so I am a bit stuck. Price really doesn't bother me a whole lot but if something that is $1500 is just as good as something that is $3500 I see no reason to spend the extra money. 1) Tein GSQ54-F1SS1 2) Eibach 82105.711 3) Skunk2 Racing 541-12-6500 4) kw 10258004 5) kw 35258004 6) Bilstein 47-228337 7) H&R 28850-11 8) Eibach 82105.712 9) Cusco 965 60J CB 10) Cusco 965 60N CN 11) ISC Suspension S018-S |
No such thing as one "best" coilover for everyone.
How do you use your car? Any autocross or track time? What kind of tires do you run? There is a big difference as you go up in price but depending on your needs are you can get a good suspension at your budget. - Andy |
KW V3 for the daily driver who wants to lower and still have a very comfortable, sporty ride with wide wheels. They know what they are doing.

depends what you want.
that question is like asking "what's the best shoe in the world?" well a pair of $500 hugo boss dress shoes might be cool for a formal event, but would suck ass in a mechanic shop... |

Good ride, I'd say better than stock, but it's been a while since I've ridden in a stock car. Decent to good performance (depends on if you're comparing BC's or JRZ's). Some-adjustability. And it can lower your car just a little while running 17x9's. |
No love for HKS?

I'd try RS*R, or JRZ if you want to spend the moneys. Depends on what you want to do with the car. Occasional AutoX/Track Day, RS*R. Dedicated/Competitive car, JRZ. I'd push to go Monotube, just because they are a much better design. A good, decently priced Monotube Coilover would be the RS*R Sports-i "Club Racer" coils. A very good, high quality, very competitive coilover would be the JRZ setup. I'm not entirely experienced or anything, but I've been doing tons of asking around and have driven and rode in many different Twins with coilover setups.

For those who have asked what I plan to do with the car. As stated in previous primarily looking for a good cross between performance and comfort along with the ability to the lower the car. Also I will track the car maybe 10 times a year but primarily it is a daily driver and show car. |
10 track days a year is a pretty serious schedule.

I drive the car year-round as my daily and track right around 10 days per year. Have Ohlins R&T that are getting 500lb rear springs and rebuild/revalving by Ohlins now. Recently got Bilstein B16 and like them a little bit better on the street than Ohlins, will try them on track and AX next season. Ohlins were great on track and AX, hoping stiffer rear springs will ease rotation. |
