Project "SUBRA"

Just for some back information, I've owned 3 MKIV supras. My first I converted from NA to single turbo, the second was stock TT that I upgraded to really push the stock twins, and the third was a single turbo with upgraded fuel. All of them were so much fun for different reasons. Anyway, those cars were great but I really wanted to do something new and fresh, so I ended up buying a 2013 BRZ because it to me it honestly looked like a fresher version of the supra platform exterior wise and I had full intentions of turboing it and honestly keeping it for a long time. After contacting multiple companies, both local, and quite a distance away, I decided to bring it to PTuning in May. The goal was to maximize the output on pump gas.

Coming from the supra crowd, I was tired of running race gas, or 100 pump (if I could ever find it) just to have fun. PTuning offered a water meth injection setup to maximize the output using 93 octane taking away the stress from having to run only race gas for high boost. I was sold.

Fast forward 8 months, and this is how the car stands:

This is running 14 psi on 93 octane + WMI:

This is running 21 psi on water meth injection:

Mod list:

PTUNING tuner turbo kit (GT-3076R)
PTUNING fueling package
PTUNING cat-back exhaust
Exedy stage 2 clutch & flywheel kit
Snow Performance water/meth kit
AEM wideband
AEM WMI failsafe monitor
Small Battery kit
PTUNING header

Then to get a little more in depth we built the block:

CP 10:1 Forged Pistons
BC Forged I-Beam Rods
ACL Main and Rod Bearings
ARP Head Studs
ARP Case Bolt Kit
ARP 2000 Main/Rod Bolts

There are 4 maps on the car:
Map 1: 18-21psi
Map 2: 18-21psi, Blip Shift
Map 3: 17psi
Map 4: 14psi

Here is a little pull on low boost (map 4 / 14 psi). I accidentally left traction control on, which spoiled the fun at the end of second gear and caused that little delay.

Also on low boost (until the 4th (last) pull, it doesn't look like it in the vid, but it was going like a raped ape until traction broke and i cut it)

I have to say, this is one of the best cars I've ever owned. I only wish that the custom plate in massachusetts for "SUBRA" weren't taken ;)

Very nice! I just decided on PTuning as well. Great looking kit and quality all the way through.

Blizzz 12-17-2014 11:55 PM

You will be happy you decided with them. They're outstanding.

I entered thinking I was going to see another 2j build.

Nice though, I love the ptuning setup.

Is the rest of the car stock besides the turbo kit and built motor?

Gotta love those numbers, wow.

Clever name too! Grab a SUBRA1 or SUBRA86 license plate.

clean clean clean setup. That W/M bottle+mini batt combo though, jeeeezus.

Nutty #s as well- must be a blast :)

I came in here expecting a brz with a 2jz swap. But this is just as cool if not better since you are sticking with the fa20.

Any gearbox issues at this power?

Blizzz 12-18-2014 01:49 PM

Hehe sorry for those expecting a 2JZ swap! I did want to stick with the FA-20 though ;)

Yeah, the rest of the car is still stock. Still on stock fuel pump etc... just larger injectors.

The drive train / gear box seems to be handling it just fine. I believe PTuning clocked over 300 miles on the dyno with this car, which is a considerable amount so it's been holding up well.

Nice numbers! impressive.

Was expecting a 2JZ swap with overnight parts from Japan, but still nice. Post a video please.

Absolutely amazing! Would love to check this thing out in person sometime.

Yeah, maybe we can fire something up in the spring when we have halfway decent weather. Then I can throw on some actual rubber and maybe get some traction! I have a set of wheels with 245 front, 265 rear, but I'm not so sure they're going to fit.

I wanted it to look as stock as possible, and coating all the pipes black was definitely the way to go for that. So fun that the turbo isn't even visible from the engine bay, although the massive intake pipe should be an indicator for those that know what they're looking for :)

Nice BRZ! If 86ONE puts together a Central Mass meet in the summer it would be great to see this car!
