Watch Guru's, I need your help
Hey everyone, I know this is unrelated to the BRZ/FRS but I'm getting this watch handed down to me and I can't find any information on it. The best I can do is find out that it looks like a Meister Anker with a valjoux 7733 movement. But what's puzzling me is the face plate and Carrera Grand Prix label. Anyone know the story of this watch? Thanks in advance.

I can tell yah that the time is wrong! :p

Doesn't Tag Heuer make the Carrera watches? Or are there other makers with rights to that brand name?

There are a LOT of long dead watch brands. The Valjoux 7733 was the 7750 of its day. Meaning everyone used it. It's solid and dependable. Looks about early 70s. But as for the brand? No idea. Could be the equivalent to a current 'microbrand'. Short lived, stock movement. Also not sure how aggressive trademarks were back then so it's tough to say anything about a connection to Heuer. Looks in pretty good shape. I've got a related 7736 in my Nivada Chronoking. It's also a dead brand, but now resurrected by a Mexican company for cheap quartz. It's current claim to fame are the sexy Mexican advertisements. Bump - still looking for more info as google search still hasn't turned anything up.

Try a watch forum.

Looks like a discussion here about one: http://www.chronocentric.com/forums/...=read;id=48187
The image is missing, but in a reply, one of them says: "can't see a genuine Heuer part anywhere in that at a glance. No genuine Carrera says either "17 rubis" or "Incabloc" on the dial." Looks like you might have a fake Tag Heuer Carrera. Edit: The logo for this company looks extremely close: http://www.carrera-toys.com/en/ Maybe a cross-promotion? |
I did some more digging and stumbled across that company last night, and was pretty much confirmed on a watch forum today as well. Thanks for all the input. I will also say it's not related to Heuer other than that they both used Valjoux 7733 movement. So it's not a fake.
