Hey Aaron,

Try connecting with the Android app and seeing what it displays (I don't remember if you have an Android or iPhone). If something is wrong, it should default to 0.00%. Make sure to use the app with the car on of course!

That too. "Custom Map P Result" in EcuTek is going to be a direct result of the ethanol percentage the ECU is reading.

Aaron,

I forgot you'd been tuned by Church! Typically we setup our Flex Fuel tunes to read ethanol content through "Custom Map P Result". More than likely, Shawn has his setup on a different custom map. Your best bet is going to be to ask Shawn which map he setup ethanol content to read through so you can view ethanol content.

When our App displays "-.-%", that typically means the Bluetooth device is not properly connected, or that Bluetooth has been turned off. In the event of a failure, the app would actually resort to reading a flat "0.00%", and your vehicle would run best on 91.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,

Zach

So i just finished reading through the whole thread. I was checking your guys website and quite confused. So how much would it cost me for the FFBT kit plus the tune for NA. (No ECUtek license or cable yet) And how much would it cost if i get a retune for a header. I also haven't seen dynos of a e85 NA Stock. On your site it just shows the 91 oct dyno. Thinking about gettng this when i get back from my deployment. I just want to research everything before hand. Thanks @DeliciousTuning!

Any update on the iPhone app yet?

FT86RGV 01-28-2016 02:35 AM

@sales@delicioustuning.com Just yesterday a similar thing happened to me. When connecting to the Bluetooth with the app. I get the following -.-%

I checked custom map p and it is working correctly. is there a way to fix the problem with the app. I uninstalled and reinstalled it. I check the connections to the black box and everything seems fine. I actually do use the app a lot in the winter. Since the lowest temps we see are usually in the 40s I try to keep ethanol % between 70-75%. I'm usually able to start the motor at first crank that way. We consistently see 80% at the pumps here so I do have to monitor the app and add necessary amounts of 93 to keep that ideal percentage for max power and ability to cold start.

What's the minimum ethanol content before the advanced timing kicks in?

We start advancing timing at just over 10%, which is pump gas for most states.

Is it possible to get a custom tune where it stops advancing timing at a certain ethanol content? So E85 would produce the same whp as E40 if the timing stopped at E40?

Maximizing power/weight ratio for given race class. Full E85 would put me over, straight regular gas would put me under but a mix could get me to where I need to be. But then you could accidentally mix too much ethanol and cheat but the tune would protect you from that. Does that sound legit or a dumb thing to do?

If they test fuel, you're in trouble either way

I suppose you could do that. Fueling would still compensate completely up to 100%, but timing addition would be capped at 40% like you requested. I guess what matters most is the power you're aiming for, and at what ethanol content you achieve that.

Most race classes allow at least 10%, if not 15% ethanol. Gotta be able to allow the guys that are rolling in off the streets with their ethanol enriched pump gas ;)

Yeah just a thought. Maybe running the C38 with the HBP and blow off everything above 12 psi would increase the whp a bit.

Well, i went out and picked up a cheapy Android device. Its nice to have actually, since i can use it as an MFD. I dont have any gauges yet, so the tablet works well and i can monitor all pertinent information from the OBDII.

But, I also decided to check out my ethanol content. Surprise Surpirse, the E85 from the new station by my house shows about E50 on the analyzer app. Damn. Hopefully the station by my work has higher E content. I wasnt exactly worried about the content, but now that i can check...I am on the hunt for quality fuel. So thank you Delicious for adding that feature. Its nice to have as much information as possible. The Station i went to is reputable, which goes to show you never know about your fuel.

Anyways, love the kit. Simple install. I will be adding my ACE header/Op/FP next month, and finally get rid of that damn torque dip.

brzaapi 02-23-2016 09:25 AM

Zach,

Just curious, is there any concerns at all with running E100 with the flex fuel kit on the BRZ that you all have seen. Since I am finding it hard to find ethanol content higher than E60 right now, I thought i would blend some E100 in (from the same station) to raise my content. But then of course I couldnt help but think....well if E85 is good then surely E100 is better.

However, i would rather hear your thoughts. Or anyone who has something to add.

Since most available fuel is petrol, most internal combustion engines (leaving aside diesels for argument sake) are designed first and foremost to be able to run on it. I guess that running on pure alcohol (E100) may bring a bit more issues in daily usage then compromise-ish E85. For example, if there are problems with winter cold start with E85, most probably they will be way more multiplied with E100 and so on. +As there is not much difference for our engines tune/power gains wise with having more ethanol content/even higher octane number then what E60-70 has, it might be another reason not to seek for E100. Salt makes some food taste better .. but no-one tries to put tenfold doze of it in food "because surely it will be better if less of it was good". Yes, even higher octane number allows one to run advance timings further, run at even higher compression with no knock .. but not on our engines, that are not designed to run with that high of compression.

Church there nailed it pretty well. In our tunes we actually leave a large safety cushion and don't advance timing further past 60-65% ethanol content on NA tunes. That being said, you're right about at max advance right now. You won't find any benefit to mixing in more ethanol, and may in fact find more difficulties with startup in cold weather or proper lubrication of the DI pump. The DI pump relies heavily on the lubricants in petrol based fuels for proper functioning. This lubricating additive is also present in the "other" 15% in E85. In E100, there are virtually no lubricating agents and this can cause some problems.

TL;DR: No real benefit to going about 65% ethanol with our NA tune, or 75% ethanol with our FI tunes.

Sincerely,

Zach
Delicious Tuning

brzaapi 02-23-2016 01:07 PM

Glad to know. I was assuming that it wouldnt really be worth it. I was aware of cold start issues, since i have ran E85 in 5 different vehicles over the last 5 years.

But as Pavel says. More isnt always better, sometimes its just more.

Thank you gentlemen.

Sure you can disable it
So what is the function of the rear 02 trim ?
why is all that code in ecu ?

"Closed Loop Fueling Target Compensation (Rear O2) Limits (Max)" – This is the max closed loop fueling
target adder based on rear o2 input. The factory default is set to an extreme value so that the limit never
comes into play. However, this can be set to zero to eliminate this compensation on the positive side.
• "Closed Loop Fueling Target Compensation (Rear O2) Limits (Min)" - This is the min closed loop fueling
target adder based on rear o2 input. The factory default is set to an extreme value so that the limit never
comes into play. However, this can be set to zero to eliminate this compensation on the negative side.
• "A/F Learning #3 Limits (Max/Min)" - These are the max and min values for the long-term fuel trim based on
rear o2 input. The factory defaults are set to extreme values so that the limits never come into play. However,
these can be both set to zero to eliminate the influence of the rear o2 based long-term fuel trim.
· "A/F Correction #3 Limits (Max/Min)" – These are max and min values for the short-term fuel trim based on
rear o2 input. The factory defaults are set to extreme values so that the limits never come into play. However,
these can be both set to zero to eliminate the influence of the rear o2 based short-term fuel trim.
· "A/F Correction #3 Adder (Increase) A", "...(Increase) B"), "...(Decrease) A", and "...(Decrease) B" – These are
the adders to the short-term rear o2 based fueling correction. Setting all four to zero will remove the influence
of the rear o2 based short-term fuel trim
