Yet another totaled topic?

Writing this from the hospital...priorities, right?

Last night some asshat hit my BRZ. Pined me between him and the car in front of me. Both airbags deployed. Hood crumple, bumper clips broken off, engine bay crumple on the driver side. Back side bumper broken off, quarter panel crumple. Right rear wheel bent 45 degrees from center. They had to tow the car with the rear wheels in the air because they just wouldn't turn against the axle.

So, what's the diagnosis? What should I do next after getting out of the hospital?

Well, what do you want to do?

There's a pretty straightforward process to addressing this type of accident. You got all his info, right? Take his insurance to town.

Yep, I got all that. I'm just worried that the car will never be the same after yesterday. I've read mixed things about airbags deploying as automatic criteria for totaling. Can they actually repair to original standards? I imagine there's a lot of work to be done, especially since a lot of the panels are seamless.

If it's as bad as you describe it, you'll have a good case to claim totaled and get a new one

I would assume that this would be considered as totaled. I think we're all glad though that you are ok.

Thanks for the kind words. Sometimes you don't realize a car is just a car, because the BRZ is such a special part of a lot of people's lives.

I thought the insurance company definition of totaled is when the repairs cost more than the price of a replacement. The "engine bay crumple" part makes me wonder if there's any frame damage too.

From the description you gave us, the car sounds fucked. Enjoy your new BRZ.

From what I read I'd say it was a special part of saving yours. Really glad you're ok. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Be prepared for a seriously protracted hassle with insurance. It likely won't be in your case but if you're prepared for the worst, it'll be a pleasant surprise when it's not.

Totaled. They'll buy you a new one, don't worry about it

Forget the airbag deployment, the other damage is of great concern. Get a new one and feel better.

2015 model is better anyway. Glad you are ok

i concur. glad to hear your ok.. sort of laughing that you wrote this post from your hospital bed..

unlikely that your car will be restored to the quality it originally was especially if there is frame damage. if thats the case then the car is totalled.

get a brand new one if you can :burnrubber:
