Painting the exhaust tips?
I found a company online which sells heat resistant paint that can hold up to 1200F.
http://www.exhaustpaint.com Was thinking of painting my exhaust tips in red just to give my car a bit of character. Has anyone ever done something like this before? I spent a while looking on Google for images of painted exhaust tips and I couldn't even find a single photo. Is this really that uncommon? Cheers. |
The temperature at the end of the exhaust is much less than 1200 degrees. you should be able to get some high temp Krylon, VHT, or Duplicolor spray paint at your local auto parts store instead of having to order it. Unless it's a special color you want. I think my local Autozone had black, silver, red and blue high heat paint on the shelf.

Engine block paint does the same thing - Although I think it comes in fewer colours.

Rice imo, but do what makes you happy.

I think there's a reason many people don't paint their tips...

red exhaust tips on red car? :puke:
but hey different strokes... use VHT and never look back! |
The only exhaust tip colour I can justify is matte black but even though I say it's justifiable, it's definitely something I would steer away from.

There was somebody on here with a red frs who painted their tips yellow. It really didn't look very good tbh, but I think he used regular paint. Maybe even plastidip.
Black looks fine, blue gets a pass because of the titanium, but anything else just looks too jarring imo. |

Are you talking about the stock tips? I could sort of understand doing them of they were say JDM and maybe all black but not usdm tips. You don't need 1200 degree rated paint btw as someone else stated the hottest that area should get is 150 maybe 1200 degrees is exhaust manifold territory lol

What's a good paint to use for this? Any links of examples would be really appreciated! Also, is there a way of painting the tips without having to remove the whole exhaust? Someone suggested covering the exhaust tips with something shaped like a cone and just spray around it. What do you guys think? |
The tips are held on by one bolt. Did you even look at them? Pull them off and paint them.
