Has anyone used this rear seat delete kit?
http://www.rearseatdelete.com/FRS-BRZ.html
I looked through some old threads but didn't find any mention of anyone actually purchasing or installing it. Looks good, price is right (that Seibon looks out of place and is horrendously expensive). I don't have kids and we are getting a dog, so I thought this would be a better option than getting fur all in the seats and potentially tearing them up when I have to take him somewhere. I know I could lay the seats down, but I like the look and it drops the weight of the car a touch. |
ABS plastic... I don't think this will bear any load.

How does the top portion stay in place? and is it movable open/close without tools?

I emailed the guys at rearseatdelete.com, here is the answer I received:
"The weight capacity depends on where you place the weight. It’s strongest in the center over the trans tunnel where it could hold 150 lbs, but out towards the edges it can’t hold as much, so if you can keep your dog in the center, he’d be fine." |

I had two dogs with a combined weight of about 150 pounds back there. I took out the divider so they could spread out. I did cheat while the dogs were back there and temporarily put some reinforcement under the leading edge of the seat but they were fine for a two hour trip. |
If you are good with wood you can fab up your own rear seat delete. I made one that weighs 12 lbs less than stock (seat bottoms and backs) and can support my weight (~150 lbs). Below are pictures of it installed. The carpeting material I picked up from Pep Boys was nearly identical. It's a little darker initially, but over time as it wears it blends in well. Best part is people think it's stock.

Also looking on info on any plywood or other diy kits. I have a 60 lb and 30 lb dog that apparently are not going to do well with the schrader kit.

Your dogs won't easily get into the back seat anyways... You going to remove your partner seat?

Although, now that I think about it, he got in by going over the passenger seat and hanging a left at the center console. My armrest probably helped out there. |

The only advantage the kit has is that it is split and lifts up to turn the space where the seat bottom was into hidden storage. |

Schrader kit
1 Attachment(s)
Hello Everyone!
I hate to necro a thread but I just received & installed the Schrader kit... First impressions are that the kit is very complete and well made... Instructions are good but a bit vague in some areas but nothing a DIY'r can't handle! First about Schrader Performance, we found there product on Tuesday, decide to buy on Wednesday morning and had a shipping receipt that afternoon... The package arrived on Friday well packaged and on time! Awesome service!! Note: I intended to post pics but I'm having trouble uploading from my iPhone... The first job was to remove the rear seats and hardware... This includes removing rear seat side panels. The instructions are very useful here. Removing the baby seat anchor and the belt return roller bracket are not clearly stated and because of time issues decided to leave them until a later date. We removed all of the seatbelt hardware we could as suggested by the instructions. Note the upper seat bracket connected to the package tray has two 12mm bolts not one... Also save the two seat bottom retention bolts you will need those at the end along with two noted lower seat support brackets bolts mentioned in the instructions... Once everything that you plan to remove or can remove is done it is now time to reinstall the side panels and secure trunk lining. Your now ready to install the kit! If you follow the installation instructions you won't have any problems as it goes together with simple trim rivits. The whole job took my wife and I about two hours most of that was trying to get the return roller belt bracket out, as noted above we decided to leave that as a winter project.. LOL. Simple DIY'r tools are all that is needed plus a 6 inch 3/8 extension is helpful. Before I wrote this post I intended to weight everything to confirm Schrader's claim that you save 23lbs but my sons have manage to misplace my special fish scale... :-). My calibrated arm says the overall is close, the factory seats are light and most of the weight savings comes from the seat back and hardware! Now the product is well made and fits very well. The color of the interior felt matches the factory very nicely. You still remove the upright partition and use the as a pass thru.. Both the vertical partition and the seat bottom covers have jute already added for sound deadening plus additional is provided if you like... Our brief test ride show a mild increase in interior noise at 100mph but not as bad as the increase I got from adding Whiteline rear subframe bushings... ;-) My conclusion... If you have a daily driver and want to save some weight and get some better usability out of area behind the main seats this the kit for you. If you are Racer / Bling / Track guy there are lighter options available. Once I resolve upload issue I will update this post with some pics! Enjoy, Ed |
Always great to necro a thread with good info! Looks great!
