Best method of selling a modded twin?
Hello,
I will be moving across the country in a few months and I will be unable to take my BRZ with me. I would like to sell the car before moving but since it has a few mods I was unsure of the best way to sell the car. Typically I would use auto trader, but since the car is tuned with an Open Flash Tablet I don't know what to do. I have other mods that need the tune like the UEL header and Intake manifold spacer so I can't just put the stock tune back on and hand the car over. I also don't want to have to try and tell a potential buyer on how to use the OFT. Should I put the car back to stock? Try and sell on this forum? Autotrader? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks |
I would recommended putting it as back to stock as possible so you can unmarry the OFT and have a stock tune on there. Not to mention, you will get more money selling those parts you took off separately.
|
I would pretty much always return all modified parts back to stock before selling it. Mods will never make you money, and will just hurt resale value.
Otherwise, your best bet is Craigslist, and get ready for lowball offers. |
Try to sell it here > Local Ads > Return to stock and piece out mod materials > Autotrader (with mention of mods).IMO.
|
Return it to stock and sell the parts on their own.

You are in Missouri, how is it possible to "move across the country"? :)
Do the right thing, rent a trailer and bring your car with you. |
|
Come on Man, you made me spew coffee everywhere!!!!
|
Just do like everyone else does. Leave the mods and ask for 50k because it's a modded frs.

Part out or lose your money.

Advertize with mods and hope that someone will believe that the mods ADD value. Good chance that someone is planning the same mods and will be happy to see them already done. I mean YOU paid for the mods, who is to say that a certain buyer wont be glad to profit from your effort.
But yeah, it does reduce the pool of buyers from say 100 to like 5...but you only need 1! |
absolute quickest way is to sell it for dirt cheap and lose money.
otherwise, take the time to part out and lose less money later. |
I'd part out if you have the time to do it... much easier to sell a stock car.

On a somewhat related topic. Do you think it would be better to remove any JDM TRD accessories before trading/selling to a dealer?
For example, the TRD strut bar, while TRD, is not a US domestic accessory. I would imagine that a dealer would either not "give" you anything for it or very little. I feel it's hard to get a good idea of a sell/trade value since all the sites I used to look up value don't take any of these parts into consideration. I have the TRD intake, exhaust, quick shifter, springs, strut bar and shift knob (the round tacoma one). I also have the diode dynamics 6000k hid kit along with all other lights being led. I guess they should all be uninstalled and set back to the oem bulbs.. |
