Anyone heard any loud popping?
I've read a few folks having an issue where they hear engine ticks, or interior rattles...
On three different occasions I've had a loud "POP" or "BANG" as if something has hit underneath or near the passenger side door. At first it was on the same road in the same area; however, this morning it did it when backing out of my drive. (And no, I'm not hitting anything or being hit, no road debris, etc.) There also nothing visual as to what is causing this... Anyone else heard this mystery noise? I'd imagine it could just be the chassis of a new car getting settled or perhaps something with the suspension settling... Didn't know if this was normal and I believe my last car had a similar "POP" a few times. If it wasn't so loud I'd probably not care to post... Thanks for any feedback! |
I have but thought it was just road debris. I'll have to pay more attention.
My drivers side door handle is a little loose also but I haven't bothered to look into it yet.. by a little loose I mean you have to grab it and try to make it move, it doesn't rattle. |
Sounds like you've had it too then... Debris was my original thought as well when I first heard it. Then it happened in the same spot with a clear road so I knew it was the car that was doing it. Still didn't think too much of it till it did it this morning. The handles all seem to be secure on mine so I'm thinking that is unrelated. Also for any of those wondering what we've heard, it was loud enough the first time to make me think I'd got a good sized ding on my new car!

I've heard it once or twice, usually when the car is cold. Almost sounds like a small detonation.

Also, let me add that I've heard this noise when the car's chassis would have a "flexing" stress placed upon it. Such as when I come out of my drive, the car would have a twisting type of motion. The road where I've heard it is in a sweeping/slightly banked & sharp S turn where the car would have a similar flex stresses.

Guys don't sweat it, it could be catalytic converter heat shields. This car got two of them, and they do get hot, expanding and contacting under different circumstances.

I may have heard this as well. There were a couple times I thought I had hit something that I didn't remember seeing on the road ahead of me.

It really does sound like large debris smacking the crap out of the underside on passenger side or the door of the car... The exhaust appears to run somewhat on that side but the sounds appears to be coming more in the door area.

I still need to throw mine up on the lift, maybe friday night I'll do that and inspect it and see if I notice anything odd, impact marks, etc.
|
Cool, let me know what you find if anything! I'd appreciate it!

the closest thing i could find in the manual was
"Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction." page 14 of the manual although it sounds like its happening to you guys while the vehicle is in motion. |
