NissanGuy Doesn't Build a Nissan!

I guess my Scion's spec sheet is getting a bit too lengthy to stay confined to a signature, so I've earned a thread!

It's a pretty standard build, since I basically like the car from the factory: It just needs to be a bit better is all

How it sits now:

My name comes from here:

That sticker above the headlamp? Glad you asked!

Turns out that Maxima bushings fit the Altima, especially after you machine out the sleeves. Handles real good after that, but eventually you want more.

Weight Reduction!

Coilovers!

Rising Sun!

Accord front lip, Autozone foglights, and some goddamn Speedlines (off an Evo 1!)

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...R/IMG_2916.jpg

And, of course, its secret weapon.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...R/IMG_0873.jpg

I had a little something on the side, the world's worst SR20VE swap:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff109/EA11R/2-3.jpg

Cleaned it up a bit, welded up the exhaust leak, installed a belt tensioner, made a battery tray, some custom (read: angle iron) framework, and countless other crap you really should get with the car:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...R/100_0402.jpg

Look at those registration stickers. So. Damn. JDM.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...R/100_0406.jpg

The reason I bought it:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...R/100_0411.jpg

The reason I fell in love with it:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...R/100_0407.jpg

The reason I didn't keep it? No paperwork. I didn't want it to get reclaimed by some former owner who felt it was still his. Oh well. One thing led to another, I made some money, and bang:

Stay tuned for the full explanation there =P

I don't know what your state laws are, but concealing a knife in your car like that seems like a really, really bad idea, especially with how insane the police are these days. That looks like you're asking to get your ass beat.

themadscientist 12-12-2014 06:49 PM

Nissan guy thing. I have knives on me all the time.

We sometimes threaten each other with them, but I don't think it translates.

Lol that would be bad. Wonder if I'd be able to talk my way outta that...

Today I earned my first check engine light! Cruise control kicked off and the cruise indicator light, oddly, turned amber. Still runs decent with like 50mpg cruising at 35mph, I'll look at it soon. 6500 miles...

...

I also got my diffuser on! It's a nice piece, and well-packaged, but it inerferes with EVERYTHING.

I don't mean it scrapes. I mean the exhaust didn't clear, the mudflaps didn't clear, it doesn't even clear the flange on the panel to which it fastens. So you end up with self-tapping screws not fastened all the way, if you install it the way they advise.

I unfastened the inner fastener on my mudflaps, removed the rear inner fender liners and used some bolts with nut and fender washer, and then I had to cinch up my exhaust hangers with a hose clamp. The result is a bulletproof mounting and 1mm clearance between the exhaust and diffuser, with no rattles. Killer. (plus, fender washers look sweet)

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...R/IMG_3677.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...R/IMG_3675.jpg

I didn't think it would change much, but I really can tell the car is now more stable at high speed. It's not a game-changer, but now there's no anxiety with cornering at 60+ mph. Or, I presume, going straight at 95+ mph (though I rarely do). Of course, the improvement for me would be bigger because my cat-back actually generates upforce compared to standard.

Overall it's a good mod. As one guy at my shop yelled out: Need For Speed Underground!

Although I get embarassed when people ask me how much it cost haha. At least it distracts from my expensive header though :bonk:

Cruise started working when I cleared the fault, P0420 catalyst efficiency. Literally, danger to manifold.

I started editing your picture to say "WARNING Danger to Manifold"

but then I got to lazy...

Good you got it sorted out though

NissanGuy 03-08-2015 12:37 AM

Test-fitted my Volks today. Apparently they're like +60 offset. Time for spacers haha.

NissanGuy 03-28-2015 10:01 PM

Volks installed! Roughly 60 offeset means I needed some 20mm spacers for my 16x7s. A guy was selling them for $400 locally partially because no one wants 3 spoke wheels, partially because one tire was fatally nailed and he had a 4WD Impreza, partially because no one wants orange wheels, and partially because his rattlecan paint job is a 10-footer at best. Whatever, his loss is my gain. I was literally looking for brightly coloured 3- or 4- spoke wheels from a good brand. I put one on a scale and they are heavy: 17 pounds :confused0068:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...11R/image5.jpg

Clearly, I make money doing food delivery in my spare time:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...1R/image2.jpeg

NO STEP:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...1R/image3.jpeg

The spokes actually stick out past the wheel lip, which is itself absurdly deep for a 60 offset.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...1R/image6.jpeg

The spacers are universal, the wheels are not. 5x100 lug bolt holes and also some 5x100 speed holes.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...1R/image4.jpeg

Getting its first bath in forever:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...11R/image4.jpg

Some other guys at my work are copying my style too:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...11R/image3.jpg

Just for kicks, here's the guy I got them from. When I showed up I saw his car was wearing, what else, a set of FR-S wheels. Replete with Scion badges. Like tC wheels, FR-S wheels look awesome on anything but the car they were sold with.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...11R/image2.jpg

...

I also got a tune from FT86SF. You know the drill: Check engine light gone, faster, smoother, with quieter cold starts (boo...)

Burrcold 03-28-2015 10:57 PM

Yuck...sorry.

wheelhaus 03-28-2015 11:24 PM

Good god those wheels are hideous! :barf:

lol But I love your photo & story telling. Keep us posted!

Carlitoz3 03-29-2015 12:06 AM

Really debating between t1 and t2 diffusers it looks good!

NissanGuy 08-26-2015 08:50 PM

Aaaaaaaaaaand coilovers!

Threw on some Bilstein B14 to celebrate my new job with Nissan SF. Immediately stripped the allen key outta the stud, at like 40.x Nm for both front struts (spec 55 Nm). So it's on but it ain't coming off without a fight. Sounds like modern Germany to me, super consistent and wholly inadequate failure conditions.

So, how does it drive? You've heard it before: Rides a little stiffer, handling less rolly and more steady, less prone to twerking out of hairpins. Hope the shocks soften up a bit over time, ride is just a little harder than necessary. Lowered 16mm, three of the four shocks are at preset height.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...1R/unnamed.jpg

Immediately scraped the car pulling out of the shop :bonk:
