At $75 for the camera and suction mount, I'm very pleased with my Mobius Actioncam. In addition to using it as a dash/driving cam, I also record autocross runs and track sessions. The only feature it lacks vs pricier units is a GPS receiver.

What is the point of gps? To record where a accident occurred?

I'm assuming to fight speeding tickets in court as GPS is used to calculate speed?

I've been using the G1W-C for 7 months with no problems so far. Great HD quality.

G1W-C it's an awesome camera for the money.

Do you guys know how much memory I would need for a 400 mile drive. With traffic hitting LA, and Anaheim its about a 5.5-6.0 drive. Less time driving back because I leave early in the morning.

I have seen it suggested that GPS in a dash-cam is not a good idea. The reasoning being that even if you weren't speeding at the time of an accident if the recording shows you were exceeding the speed limit 10 minutes ago this could be used against you.

Cheap GoPro. $100-ish's old models. Basic model.

Not officially a dash cam, but quality is amazing. Or BlackVue.

If you've got an android there are a bunch of dashcam apps you can use. Just out your phone on the mount, fire up the app and plug it in for charging and it works like a charm.

Thats what ive been using for a couple months

Cut the video before handing it over?

Only using the video if its a must. Wont hand over anything unless something like the other driver isn't saying they were at fault or something.

This really isn't the best solution. You want something you don't have to think about/proactively activate. I can guarantee you it will be the one time you are too lazy to set it up, or have a dead battery, etc... that you will get hit or miss something you wanted to capture.

Same goes for the GoPro recommendation.

If you want a proper dash-cam setup, get something that records all the time regardless of how lazy you are, without any interaction from you.

Meh, works fine for me. Different strokes for different folks. Just throwing out different ideas

BlackVue 650 (Front and rear) w/ Power Magic Pro power controller. Expensive? Well, it's not radically expensive and the install isn't plug and play but I would buy it again and again.

I feel way better knowing I have footage front and rear.

Edit: Oh snap! It's even cheaper now and it's on PRIME, and it's bundled with the power magic pro. WINNING!

If one knew what was going to happen one wouldn't have to use a dash cam to start with. Use GPS or don't. Your call.

Id agree, but phones tend to heat up a lot... at least all of my last 3. I barely used them and they died within 4-5 months on me. Two leaked and I freaked. (Battery leaked)

If I used my phone as dash cam it'd probably catch on fire!
