New Rearview Mirror

Just completed the installation of a Gentex GENK41a Auto Dimming with HomeLink. Had to buy an adaptor for the windshield bracket. The rest was wiring and a little time. I tapped the switched power supply from the cigarette lighter in the glove box, the ground and continuous power from the interior overhead light. The overhead light has a new led bulb as well (3022-WHP4).
Programmed the 3 garage doors and cleaned the mirror, she's ready to drive:)
Ebay Complete kit $110, Amazon Adaptor $22.00

NICE! I was wondering why the FR-S doesnt have it as an option.. well.. perhaps next year.. but great fix.. Will it stay on though over time? Is there a warranty or guarantee?

tonystewart 06-07-2012 09:58 AM

I hope it stays, warranty is from Gentex for part.

Very nice, that's a bargain for somebody that wants to add this themselves. That appears to be the identical part to the one I paid $280 port installed for.

tonystewart 06-07-2012 01:46 PM

That is a fair price, the labor is worth paying for.

So do you know where the factory compass mirror hooks up at? On the impreza body there is a harness under the roof liner on all the cars and you just have to pull it out. Did you look to see if this was under the liner at all?

tonystewart 06-08-2012 01:15 PM

I do not
The only visible wires under the roof liner in the overhead light opening were:
The three wires for the overhead light, black -, green + constant, white + switch
The two wires for the bluetooth microphone, black , red

FWIW, it looks identical to the Subaru Impreza/Forester/BRZ adapter part h501ssa040, and that's under $10 from online Subaru dealers. Just make sure you're buying something else, so that you don't pay $10 for shipping of a $10-part.

In the BRZ it's deep to the passenger side (and back a bit). You have to reach wrist-deep into the opening after you popped the map light.
