How do you pull the front sidemarkers?

I was going to smoke my front sidemarkers, but I can't figure out how to remove them! It seems like it should be pretty easy, but I don't want to break anything. Can someone tell me how it is done?

If you have access to the BRZ manual, starting from page 338 to 339 it shows how to remove the front side markers.

OK, so I finally pulled mine when I had to yank my front bumper to remove the headlights.

The clip that holds the sidemarker in bent on BOTH SIDES when I removed them. When I went to reinstall them I attempted to bend the clip back into a position where it would hold the lights in and in both lights the CLIP BROKE. It is a very poor design and I am not the first to break the clips, other people have also had the same issue.

To solve the broken clip, I drilled a hole in the plastic clip mounting area, reinstalled the sidemarker and then ran a small zip tie through the hole to secure it to the metal mounting bracket. It works fine, but I am not happy at all with the ghetto-ness of the solution.

Sticking the screwdriver through the hole and pressing like the manual suggests was not working for me (you can't see what's going on inside the hole). The trick is to pry the sidemarker out slightly til you see the bottom edge of a metal clip. You need to slide your screwdriver between the bumper and the sidemarker and firmly press on that clip's edge. The sidemarker should ease right out. You have more leverage and visibility this way (you can actually see what you're doing) compared to the manual's suggestion.

Did your metal clip break or just the plastic tab that holds it? I also accidentally popped the metal clip out so that the inside of the plastic tab got scratched and wouldn't hold the clip in its original position. The sidemarker wouldn't snap snugly back into the bumper. I used pliers to bend/reshape the metal clip to different experimental angles/heights. Spent a good 20 minutes of trial and error til the sidemarker finally snapped in securely.

One of my metal clips actually broke in half, the other clip came out of the plastic mount and shot across my garage, never to be found. Now that I am in zip tie mode I don't have to worry about the clips anymore... I'm almost glad!

I plan to just have window tint applied to mine and leave them installed.

DarrenDriven 06-19-2012 03:20 AM

Have you installed window tint on the exterior of a vehicle before? It is designed to be inside the vehicle on glass. The expansion and contraction of plastic causes the inflexible layer of tint to wear faster and exposure to the elements causes it to crack and discolor. You can get flexible tinted vinyl that is very similar in appearance to tint, though.

For those who have swapped to the clear fender sidemarkers, are the stock bulbs inside amber colored or clear? I'm going to do do Spaceywilly's clear turn signal by changing to chrome bulbs (but with amber light) on the tail lights and head lights and I just wanted to do a clear/chrome sidemarker bulb but still lights up amber color for uniformity.

Shout out to switchlanez for pointing me in the right direction where to order! Thank you! :)
