Need to buy a clutch tomorrow, OEM or Stage 1, any advice on where to go?
So after 60,000 miles and a massive amount of abuse, my poor clutch and throw out baring failed (yes I drive a lot and yes I'm really hard on my clutch).
Before pulling them out and burning them in a boat at sea like the good little warriors they are, I need to buy a new clutch. So I'm looking for a shop that actually has an OEM or Stage 1 clutch in stock for a reasonable price. I would just pick up the Exedy Stage 1 from FT-86 Speed Factory but I'm not sure I can be without a car for a week. Any recommendations? To be clear, I just want the clutch kit, I'll do the install myself. |
what part of socal are you in?

South Orange county, but willing to go anywhere in so cal

Hit up @Evasive Motorsports they should have that clutch in stock.
|
@YouShallKnow i think you just called us we actually do have the release bearing in stock
|
What kind of abuse are you talking about here? I'm also hard on my clutch so just wanna know how you treat it
|
I was just hard on my clutch. I would go drifting at 1:00 am behind a local shopping center. I did this like every other day for a few months when I first got it. I also did burnouts from time to time.
But I think my hard daily driving habits were worse. I would hold the clutch in and stay in gear at lights waiting for the green. I would rev and dump the clutch to get off the line fast. Just shit like that for two years. Surprisingly my clutch was in pretty good condition, but my release bearing was literally melted. If you here a high pitched whine when you depress the clutch, like the crickets but really loud, there's a good chance your bearing is failing. |
IIRC OEM is made by Exedy, so if you want an upgrade get Exedy Stg.2
|
Yeah that's the clutch I want. I ended up buying a fx400 from someone on the forums that I never used.
I'll get around to posting a sale or trade thread soon. I'd trade it straight up for the exedy stage 2. |
Please don't forget to resurface your flywheel.
|
I reinstalled my oem flywheel and didn't resurface it. It's been about 1000 miles with no slipping or other issues.
It even had a couple hot spots from when the release bearing failed. |
