Finally Joined the Club
I always like reading others people’s stories so I figure I’ll share mine.
I’ve been a lurker here since the car was first revealed…I loved the car but bounced back and forth about buying one because I was afraid of having RWD in the north east, and I was concerned about the space in the car since I’m a tall guy. I finally found deal that was too good to pass up and made a move. I traded in my Scion TC (which I hated) for a 2013 FRS with 15k miles. I couldn’t be happier. Compared to my old TC, the FRS has more headroom, more comfortable with a better driving position (obviously) for my tall self, and is a decent amount faster. While the FRS doesn’t feel like a rocket, the overall balance of the car feels amazing...wringing it out to 7.5k rpms definitely puts a smile on my face. Oh and the shifter on this thing is a work of art in my opinion, perfect throws. Only bad thing is that I’ve been burning the clutch pretty good trying to figure out the pedal. Damn clutch return spring might have to come out to make it feel like a normal clutch. On the agenda is getting comfortable with driving RWD car, it has me a little nervous so far (any tips are appreciated). Need to throw on some dedicated winter tires. And I need to do a full detail on the car, its been raining since I picked it up. Then it’s on to springs, wheels, camber bolts, headers and tune. Only bad thing is that living in a city, I street park. I am thinking I will put it in a garage when bad weather comes, but I really don’t want to pay $150 a month for a garage lease :/ Hope my bumpers don’t pay the price. |
Welcome to the club, Pics would be nice
WARNING MODS are inevitable Blown engine? 2jz will fix that Burned clutch? Exedy Stage 1 Clutch Kit will fix that ex-girlfriend keyed your fenders? Rocket bunny will fix that fuel pump chirps too loud? UEL headers + straight pipe will fix that GOOD LUCK :D |
Welcome! The clutch was definitely not intuitive for me either, but became so over time.
Autocrosses or track days help a lot with getting comfortable with RWD. Also helpful is drifting in the snow in an empty parking lot. Just make sure there's nothing around to hit, and have fun! |
