Lightweight Pulleys in Turbo application

Car will be turbocharged in the Spring and I have a set of lightweight pulleys (Crank+Water+Alternator) ready to be installed. But looking at it, is it even worth putting them on since I am going turbo? I was told that you can either put a lightweight flywheel or lightweight pulleys, but can't have both as it will throw the balance of the engine off and causes a CEL. On top of that there isn't really much noticeable difference between lightweight pulleys and OEM pulleys when going FI. Is this true? Sorry, total novice in these things. Any help is appreciated!

I have turbo + lightweight pulleys + lightweight flywheel :iono:

There's many posts about lightening both ends of the engine causing engine failures due to pounded bearings (harmonics), so what I gather is, lighten one, or the other.

Either go with lightened flywheel, or lightened pulleys, but not both.

Most turbo applications require a better clutch anyways, and most of those clutch kits come with lightened flywheels.

I've got both right now and I'm considering taking the perrin pulley off. Car is pretty hard to take off with in first gear. Wasn't an issue until new clutch. I think Ive read before about one or the other as well. So its definitely something I'm looking into.

Just out of curiosity, can you guys please link the sources of these 'known engine failures due to lightweight pulleys.'

I had both a lightened flywheel and lightened crank pulley and I ended up taking the pulley off. It was a huge pain in the ass to drive smoothly. After I took the pulley off my gf asked me what I did to the car since it doesn't drive like a POS anymore haha.

Anyways, with or without turbo, there's little-to-no gains from a lightened crank pulley so I wouldn't suggest doing it. This is coming from someone that had one and went back afterwards.

the only issue i have with my car (pulley kit, flywheel and driveshaft) is that i find my rpms drop way to fast if im being lazy and dont downshift when coming to a stop. the rpms dip way to low almost a stall before the ecu corrects it. Doesnt happen all the time but often enough.

Crank pulley issue has been beaten to death in numerous threads...

The other pulleys would be fine to install (unless they somehow hit any of the turbo components), but the factory pulleys for the accessories aren't very heavy to begin with.

Consider it the cosmetic upgrade it is (unless they're underdrive pulleys, they do nothing for performance but making your wallet lighter)
