Mitsubishi Triton made in Thailand is way better on durability and on par on reliability. If you're looking for off road vehicle, Lexus LX and Toyota LC are the best things you can get.
Note: most middle class in Cambodia have at least a truck, and a SUV or a car because rural road over there is like a rally...off road or maintain road I mean. I have seen some guys take GT-R R35 off road too.

How is the Hilux in thailand different from the ones everywhere else? The Hilux is one of the most reliable and toughest trucks in the world, always has been. The POS Triton has nothing on it. Only the LC70 series & Nissan Patrol pickup compares IMO (the rest off-road gurus are SUVs).

Tacoma and Hilux are similar in size, and yeah, I do consider it a "US Hilux" though in some configurations, the Tacoma is bigger, but it does NOT have a V8 (never mind I wish it did). They are based on a similar if not the same platform, which also underpins the last gen LC Prado (aka Lexus GX470), 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Fortuner and this van thing they sell somewhere over in asia, don't remember the name.
