Winter Tires/Steelies
Looking to purchase cheap winter tires and steelies for a 2015 BRZ Sport-Tech...looked on TireRack but with duty and taxes it was coming to around $1100...need some help on where to buy cheap in Ontario preferably...also if you guys have some advice on what tires/rims to go with that would be great
Thanks |
might be able to get a good deal from Canadian Tire as they sometimes put older model (brand new tires) on sale...at least they do here in Sault Ste. Marie, ON as I scored some cheap winter tires for under $500 for Nordic tires and rims for my other (winter) vehicle, but this is a hit and miss if they'll have the size and number of tires you'll need

Check out Simply Tire. That is where I got mine last year and they are by far the cheapest place to go in the GTA for winter tires.
Here is a link to their price list: http://simplytire.com/winter/subarupdf.pdf Prices start at $600 and go up to $900. I personally recommend spending the extra money and picking up a set of Michelin X-ice 3. They perform phenomenally and they will last a lot longer than the cheaper brands thus saving you money in the long run. Now go get winter tires now before you get caught in a snow storm with summer tires on there. |
+1 for Simply!!! The hankook's I got in 2010 still have a tons of life on them since my Impreza. Last winter i put those tires on for the FR-S and I only lost traction once. Long tread life and good grip!!!

I used PMC Tire out of Quebec as they have free shipping to Ontario. Their online prices are cheaper that if you walked into their store. I got alloys for just under $100 when you buy a set with tires they have a deal that includes balancing, stems etc. My son, wife and myself were happy with the deals we got. PS I think there is no provincal taxes added.

Another +1 for Allen at Simply Tire and his crew. Great prices and service!

Small thread jack: so you guys on xice3 don't even lose traction during the two snows we had this winter so far? Or were your streets simply just salted right away so really just driving on water? Not totally complaining but I basically danced through the streets riding on my xi3 ...

It could be my driving... First rwd

@JERM^ x-ice3's or blizzaks aren't magical, they still lose traction if you want to lose traction, just like spinning summers in the rain. It's just a lot less likely to lose traction unexpectedly given the conditions :) I had xi3's last winter but still tried to avoid driving when it wasn't absolutely necessary during snow storms.

@NeilAngelo try kijiji or classifieds, I just sold my xi3's on decent alloys for $900, they had about 2000KM on them.

Last night with my hankook's (4 winter seasons) i lost a little bit of traction while going through some intersections from a red light...once or twice...i dunno why...light turns green...initial pickup is slow but no loss of traction...but when i got to the middle of the intersection TC flashed hahaha...confused. But overall it's not that bad...might just be the conditions and lack of salt.
