Circuit Motorsports Tuned GT86(TR-86) Competes in Targa New Zealand 2014-pics & video

Hello!

We recently tuned a very special GT86, the TR 86, in preparation for the Targa New Zealand race. This 86 is one of twenty race-prepped TR 86's built by Toyota NZ.

You can view more details here: http://www.toyota.co.nz/our-range/86...cations/tr-86/

We tuned this 86 with a modified version of our Fast-Flash Stage-2 tune, with a plan for more power modifications and a custom tune after the Targa New Zealand race. Time did not permit all modifications before the race. Stay tuned for more from this car and the racing it will do soon!

Congratulations to Michael on placing 3rd in his class - a great finish for his first race outing in the TR 86!

thanks for posting, we need to gather more information on race build in the forum.

Do you have any picture of the roll cage ?

From what I can see it seems to be the 'usual' toyota design with an X shape for main hoop, which would unfortunately not be compatible with US NASA rules... If only we could get our hand on the full specs of that cage, may be there could be an exception as I bet this is the best cage possible considering toyota has all the cad info on the rest of the car.

So the TR 86 does does not come with an oil cooler?

I'll ask the owner for photos of the cage.

Here are a couple of informative videos on the TR-86 build. Toyota sent the cars out to Neil Allport Motorsports in New Zealand for the cage work.

Yes, it does include an oil cooler. Apparently that site does not list all of the modifications done to the TR-86. Here is a list of modifications the TR-86 has, provided by the owner of this TR-86:

  • Stripped Interior
  • Fully homologated roll cage - FIA Approved
  • 5 point harnesses
  • Winged race seats
  • Removable race steering wheel
  • Replaced dash instruments with Motec C125 display unit/logger
  • Disabled traction & stability control
  • Upgraded brake package - 6 pot Alcons in the front and 4 pot Alcons in the rear w/rotors
  • Italian Speedline 18” race wheels
  • Race spec adjustable coilovers with camber plates
  • Large bore cat free exhaust
  • Oil cooler and large winged and baffled 8 liter Oil Pan with new Pickup
  • Modified crank case breathing
  • Slightly modified intake (sound tube delete + drop-in filter)

Race weight is right at 2700 lbs.

Any of the racecars suffer from direct injection seal failures?

I am not aware of any of the TR-86 cars having an issue with the direct injector seals. This TR-86, and I suspect all 20 TR-86s, had the A01 ROM loaded from the factory, which includes the fix for the direct injector seal issue.

Our current tunes are based on the newer B01 ROMs which also contain the direct injector seal fix as well as a correction for the idle dip problem.
