decisions decisions
Hoping for some input here. I'm trying to decide whether to supercharge my frs or sell it and my motorcycle and buy a couple year old wrx sti. Already have 2 kids and one more coming, so the added room would be nice. I know the bike will be parked this year with the little one arriving at the start of bike season. My dilemma is giving up the warranty on the frs in search of more power. I'm already stg 2 OFT with power blocks. has anyone here switched? or what are some reasons I shouldn't?

Is it your only family vehicle?
If so the reasons to change are obvious. If not then the answer is not so simple. |
Wife has a venza that is the family vehicle, she actually likes the frs. I'm just thinking the STI will cover more bases, room, power, and warranty

You will certainly have more space and power but there are a pile of trade offs. There are a bunch of comparisons in the Vs section that may help you figure out which way to go.

Thanks for the input.... I'll do some more reading

Three young-uns? I would definately want a four door, at least if you know you will be hauling the tykes around somewhat frequently.

Usually if the kids go in the frs at all its just to run an errand. But yeah the practicality of a 4 door is starting to come to play... Wow I'm getting old

I went with a vortech supercharger and love it, night and day from the e85, but I only have two kids under 7 yrs...go sti, so you can haul all three

I have a 2 and 4 year old and I never let them in my car lol. We use my wife's Accord for everything "family" related. If you really only have them in the FRS to run the occasional errand, than I would reconsider as you will most likely see how useless the added 2 doors are. However, and it's a big however, the power and practicality of an STi will definitely be your best friend if you really need it.

Yeah its a tough, both are such great cars!
|
And hey what offsets getting older more than a great looking sports car like the FRS :D
|
Lol a supercharger for the frs to haul the additional weight ;) could pretty much talk the wife into that... That's logical

If you're worried about reliability, be aware that GD and GR (EJ257) STI's are known for cracking their ringlands. This happens under detonation, whether on a stock tune or aftermarket.
Other than that, they're good sporty family haulers. You give up the handling, lightweight feel, and fuel economy of the Twins, but you gain back power and practicality. I probably wouldn't go for it if you have a Venza that can handle family duties, but if you need to take the kids around often, it's not a bad way to go. |
On another thought, I could haul another 8 year old in the front, and still transport 3 kiddies lol
