Looking at the doors, doesn't look like 8s to me. Huh.
someone needs to tear into one and take pics/ measure!

Anyone else annoyed by how easily the stock door woofers "fart"? Even with the bass all the way down they distort at low volume.

If I go three-way active I'll run 7s in the doors for mid bass, then 4/1 in the dash for midrange/highs and either run two 8s where the rear speakers are IB or in sealed boxes (if it'll fit) or just build a box in the trunk.

Main question is door speaker depth, anyone brave to find out? :) That would determine how big i'd go. Maybe there's even to fit an 8 assuming depth is ok and it fits under trim panel. That'd be lovely.

Oops. That's what I get for browsing at work with no images doh! That's awesome then.

Going to have the install done on Monday. Putting 6.5's in the door, so we'll see how they fit.

Do you mind taking pictures of the dash speakers (with grilles removed) as well as the doors? I'm sure we would all appreciate it!

Yeah, I'm planning on having a lot of shots of it. I've already seen the dash speakers (the grills just pop off, by the way). It's a 3.5" mid and a .75 or 1" tweet. The surround on the 3.5 is massive, though, so you could fit a 4" in there, if the mounting depth on your speaker is sufficient.

The pics will be in my journal thread next week.

Focal polyglass 4s should fit in the dash, with some creative mounting, for example.

Awesome, thanks! If they pop off, I may go take a look. I wonder if 5.25's will fit up there...

Great! I'm looking at putting a 4" & 1" in the dash. How deep is the mounting depth for the 4" area BTW?

Symbiont 06-05-2012 07:25 PM

At a guess, I'd say around 50-55mm or so, but don't quote me on that.

Yeah, you don't need to uninstall the dash to replace the speakers there. They are surface mounted under the grills, and the grills just pop off with a small flathead screwdriver, for example.
