Cruise control bracket for aftermarket steering wheel

3 Attachment(s)
I made a cruise control bracket for an aftermarket steering wheel.
I've milled it out of 3 mm thick Delrin, which is strong enough for this purpose. If you pull the cruise control hard it flexes a bit, but I personally prefer it this way.

It is DXF-File but I added .txt to the file (otherwise it wouldn't attach).
Anybody with a milling machine or water cutter etc. can use that file to cut this cruise control bracket.

If you want to adapt the file you can download Draftsight which is a free CAD software.

I purchased this deep dish aftermarket steering wheel off Aliexpress (less than $30) and used a splash steering wheel adapter to mount it. I only had an issue with the horn button which wasn't working properly and replaced it with one I got off Ebay. (I got a neutral one but you can get and fit all sorts of horn buttons with Transformer/Autobot and what not on it as this is all standardized).

The main reason I got this, is because I have a relatively long-leg-to-arm-length-ratio and wanted to get the steering wheel closer without having to move the seat forward (without having to bend my knees significantly):

Love the bracket.. not sure about a $30 steering wheel though...

This aftermarket wheel is definitely sturdy and non-bendable. The spokes are made out of aluminum are not thinner than on a comparable steering wheel.

I was actually positively surprised about it's build quality. The only part I thought that could be of poor quality was the leather part, but it actually appears to be genuine. One thing that didn't work properly was the horn button and I ended up buying another one.
I purchased this steering wheel, because I figured with $30 I'm not taking a big risk.

Obviously, I wouldn't recommend buying an inexpensive steering wheel with any active components such as an airbag (if this was even available).

Why don't you sell this bracket?

a $30 steering wheel... not trying to hate, but that is sketchy as hell lol, especially after removing your airbag on a street car too.

Sorry guys, I didn't follow this thread.

You can ask any online laser or water cutting service or online milling service for a quote and they'll reproduce it in no time.

Just send them the DXF-File (units are mm and not inches!) I attached (first post) and tell them it needs to have a thickness of at least 1/8". It can made out of Delrin, Aluminium or whatever your preference is.

(I made it myself because I have access to a small milling machine, but I don't think this is the most efficient process.)

Also, this is not patented or something. Any vendor who's already serving the FT86 community can reproduce and sell it.

I made mine out of a carbon fiber plate.

Carbon is an even prettier option (in that case the material could also be thinner - 1/16" would probably suffice).
Please note: My bracket is cut out in the center such that any standard horn button fits as usual. It also has a partial cutout for the wiring of the cruise control.

With this free CAD program one can open and adapt the DXF-File with the 2D-bracket-design in the first post: https://www.3ds.com/products-service...free-download/

A little thread revival on this...does anyone know how long the screws/bolts are the come with either the NRG Quick Releases or most quality steering wheels? I am going to have an adapter/bracket crafted up so knowing the length of the screws/bolts will help in the material to be used. If the screws are not long enough, I should be able to find suitable screws/bolts somewhere.

This is exactly what I did :) I have 5 coming next week, water jetted out of 5052 aluminum. 2 are spoken for (myself and another track rat that commutes to the track in his track car), so if anyone wants one, I'll ship them to the person at cost: $30 all in USPS priority in the USA via small flat rate box. Not making a dime on them, just being helpful to anyone else that wants one, since another member was kind enough to provide the DXF file :) PM me if interested.

Cruise brackets have arrived!

They fit the standard 6 bolt steering wheel / hub pattern like a charm. The DXF file provided by rx3 above worked like a charm. 3 left if anyone wants one, just pm me :)

This is what it looks like in the car - just like rx3's - after all it's the same dxf file ;)

Hey guys, just wanted to throw this option out there. Found this for sale after finding this thread. $35 and fits perfect.

*disclaimer i do have a nardi wheel and this piece is drilled for standard bolt pattern so i had to drill my own holes. AKA cut it all up on the inside
