how to clean K&N filter without the kit?

I have a K&N air filter since it's reusable, but I didn't realize K&N has it's own special cleaning kit. Has anybody cleaned their filter without using the kit? I need some easy and effective ways please...

3 clicks, 11 bucks. Doesn't get simpler than that.

Just dip it in automatic transmission fluid and throw it in there. What's the worst that could happen?

Or you could buy the K&N kit so your intake sensors don't die.

Cleaning? Yes, as the cleaner in the kit is just degreaser.

Of course, that's only half of what's required to recharge a K&N, so you still need the oil (still waiting on an AEM dryflo drop in filter to hit the market...)

I don't get why people like allowing more dirt in their engine in the first place. :iono:

Buy the damn kit and stop being lazy.
The kit includes a cleaner obviously. I dont n know what it is but it's maf sensor safe.

The oil is just mineral oil with red dye. The dye is important because without it you will under oil the filter and let more crap in. Over oil and you'll ruin your maf sensor. Buy the damn kit. This is like asking if you can use something else in your cereal because you're out of milk.

Buy the kit, clean it, oil it and let it sit on a piece of cardboard for a while. Put it in, go buy some MAF cleaner, clean the MAF a couple times within the first 500 miles. I've had zero issues running a K&N filter on my other vehicles.

10 bux on ebay. Doesn't get cheaper and kit should last you at least 5 cleaning cycles
