Upgrading Fog Lights to LED- 20% off at Diode Dynamics
 

I was waiting for the annual Diode Dynamics sale... Site now lists all LED fog lights on sale for 20% off. See copy of ad below. Here is my question:


***Upgrading '14 BRZ Limited fog lights to LED- I called Diode Dynamics 2 weeks ago and they recommended COOL WHITE (6000K), XLM2 (1420 lumens). What is your opinion before I order tomorrow?***

Couple thoughts:

1) Those will be really f'ing bright. I got the DD fogs one stage below the XLM2 and I sometimes worry about pissing people off. I'd be even more paranoid with the XLM2s. They cast a lot of light above the HID cutoff. Not sure how much you care. (edit: despite this, I'm still happy I got the DD upgraded fod LEDs)

2) The BRZ HIDs are 4300k, while those fogs are 6000k. Consequently, your headlights will look a little more yellow in comparison to the fogs. You can replace your HIDs with 6000k bulbs to match if it bothers you--DD sells those too. I don't mind the color difference so much, so I still have the stock HID bulbs.

I want yellow fog lights but I don't see that option anywhere. Are they sold out or am I supposed to buy yellow DRLs light bulbs? I tried calling them but they aren't open yet :/

The yellow ones are sold out. At least the XLM2 series is. I want some too, but as another poster mentioned, I'm worried about the cutoff.

I would like to match the color at 6000k, and increase the brightness of the existing BRZ fog lights due to my poor night vision. I might go for the 6000K with XP80 although Diode Dynamics say the XP80s are similar in brightness to factory fogs. See their quote below... I need the brightest LEDs without blinding oncoming drivers. Not sure what to do...


"HP48: 265 lumens. Slightly lower brightness than factory.
HP8: 270 lumens. Slightly lower brightness than factory.
XP80: 510 lumens. Similar brightness to factory.
XML2: 1410 lumens. Much brighter than factory. These are bright!"

I got the XP80s in 6000k cool white. They are definitely brighter than stock. I don't think they're blinding, but they certainly look bright to oncoming traffic. Overly sensitive people might flash at you, but on the whole I haven't noticed an issue.

is the 6000k noticeably whiter than stock? I'm looking at getting them but I want to match the stock HID.

Would you recommend the 5000K ones instead for my purpose?

D4S is slightly higher kelvin than D2S (which is 4300K)



LED's aren't going to have the same focus in the housing, and the bulbs are unshielded meaning anything you add is going to simply be glare. It's not going to help you much at night as the light is going to be foreground (meaning you're outdriving the light at any speed above crawling).

Looking to find something close to HID yellow fogs without using halogen, as to keep the lense clear.

The XML2 bulbs in yellow look awesome, if this is what the color output is like. Is the 20% discount still available? If not, I will wait for boxing day, thanks.
