Is this kind of mark up common?

Went to the only dealer in my area with FRS in stock and the one they had in the showroom (only one available to see, even though they had more "on a different lot") was marked up 1.5k for some misc crap, than another 5k for some wheels they put on them, they weren't even good wheels, was some generic brand. They also wouldn't let anyone test drive it unless they ran their credit.

First I heard of a dealer putting wheels on it, can you get a pic?

A lot of dealers are putting Adjusted Market Value markups and one dealer on here trying to sell them with $3,000 leather seat "upgrade".

Just keep looking because there are a lot of dealers also selling at MSRP.

I plan on going back probably this weekend to see if the ones they have "at the other lot" appear (they are available for sale online) I'll take a picture. The total cost after they added everything was 31k+ and being that Scion has a no haggle policy, that was ridiculous to me.

Unless you have money to burn just hold out. Florida dealers have to be the worst, it seems that most of them have at least a $5k markup.

You could tell them you want the stock wheels and tires put back on the car and refuse to pay for a markup.

Yep, totally common, totally normal. Nothing to see here.

I want to see what wheels they put on it ^_^

They added 2K wheels in North Hollywood but were willing to take them off if you didn't want them... They looked worse then the stock ones.

Yep I know of two dealers now, one being the one my dad works at, but he himself would rather sell the car straight forward. Adds 2450 to the price, but the profit is still low compared to selling a Prius or even fully equipped Corolla.

Florida doucherships strike again...

HotLeopardMama 06-05-2012 03:01 AM

Buena Park added ugly TSW rims to their Argento FR-S' and put the stock rims on f***ing Prius. When we inquired about putting the stock rims back on they flat-out said no rudely. On top of the rims, which were marked as $3000, they added $495 window tinting, and $495 Thermogruard.

Garden Grove added a $995 alarm, $995 window tinting (!!!!), and $995 Thermoguard to their AT Hot Lava and wouldn't allow me to test drive unless I committed to buying.

The only way we have ANY hope of getting some of these dealerships to be more forthcoming or remove their mark-ups is
1) Don't play their markup game (Wait for a month until you can get it for MSRP)
2) Email Scion and tell them about the dealerships that are advertising the FRS at a lower price than what the car is being listed for on the lot:

See this link:

Yeah these mark ups are common. They will either get you with a "Market Value Adjustment" or tacky dealer-installed accessories just to bump up the price! Unless you really like the installed accessories and have money to burn, don't fall for these tricks and just wait for the other vehicles to arrive. I'm sure there are honest dealers within your area so don't ever settle to those shady stealerships!

Guys, it's the modern time shopping era. We know how & where to buy good deal.
For Scion brand with the particular FRS true sport car - Only pay real price from official scion msrp sticker. Don't pay any extra add on from that dealer. All those items @ rip-off price. It's common today for dealers to make extra sale which will accumulatively added to the financing. Cars will be automatically available at all dealers for sale as time goes. I will only consider original price with original car. That's my bottom line :)

Keep looking for another dealer. The drive will be worth it. You could ship one from another state way cheaper than that.
